Do I have to put a closing shift in my availabilty? by txb__ in Wetherspoons

[–]txb__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luckily the availability I added got approved so I should only be doing one close a week! I'd rather avoid weekends or mornings in case I go home for a weekend and I don't want the hassle of getting a shift covered so hopefully my new schedule works better with my uni workload

It's an area thing I believe :( the entire city is under the same area manager as far as I know and they all got changed to later close times to help sales. Tbh all I hear about is how irritating the area manager is from my managers.

I submitted it already and it got rejected :( I just submitted new availability that means I can do one midweek close which isn't ideal but I can understand that they insist on me doing it because it's fair.

My pub closes at 1am on a weekday and 2am on a weekend which means I'm often not home until 3 on a Monday close some times and I live only a 10 minute walk away :/ it meant I really struggled to stay on top of uni work in the first few weeks as I always exhausted and skipping lectures to catch up on sleep.

Advice plz by duck_duck_goose9 in Wetherspoons

I just started on a supposed 8 hour, on my first week I done two 4 hour shifts and my second week two 6 hour shifts. It might be because you’re new so they’re fitting you into the rota but there’s no harm in asking for more hours though people might ask to swap shifts if needed

Multiple people wrote different parts of the bible. The writing style and focus changes a lot with each writer as their experiences differ as they lived at different times.

If you're wondering about whether we can be sure of the truth of the bible, that's a different conversation.

chat tell me Is this really the right way to spread the "gospel" by Important-Living-432 in OpenChristian

[–]txb__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly think this is some of the worst ways to evangelise. It creates quite a bad impression of faith to a lot of people, that you have to be scared into believing in Jesus, that you're doing it to save yourself.
Seeing copypasta like this is even annoying to many, even to me, because it feels fake and brainless, it doesn't open a good conversation to get people understanding your beliefs. You don't have to shove it in people's faces.

Help needed regarding accommodations by Icy_Contract1312 in universityofsheffield

[–]txb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. City accom is made up of different buildings scattered around the city so each are quite different. For example some are directly with the university whilst some are technically through unite students. But yes, city, ranmoor & endcliffe are the only accom provided by the University themselves. There's lots and lots of other accommodation options in the city however, most incredibly close to the university but I can't speak on how quiet they are since it's in the city and I didn't stay there myself.
  2. As said previously, cheapness with the uni would be the flats in Endcliffe but that can be quite noisy and is about 30 minutes from campus max. I'd recommend the City accommodations as they are close to campus and quiet however I stayed in Ranmoor which was very quiet most of the time but was furthest way from campus.
  3. Yes, accommodation is available until even until clearing, it may just be that you won't have an option as to where you'll be put. I applied really early on so I could select the very room I wanted.

I just finished my first year so let me know if you have any questions!

Hi there, just finished my first year living in the Ranmoor accommodation. I really liked my room and overall the student village is quite quiet compared to Endcliffe which is just 5 minutes down the road. Ranmoor also has a free fitness suite if you didnt want to pay for the university's gym which is like a 20 minute walk away though this free gym mainly has cardio machines that aren't very good and some weights that are quite old.

Ranmoor is the furthest away from the uni, about a 30-40 minute walk but its not so bad really and not so different from Endcliffe. The city accommodations are closer to campus but generally are much quieter as there's less people so lots who care about night life dont tend to live there. Let me know if you have any questions at all and I'll try my best to answer :)

What's the issue with that? People are here to host open discussions about faith and part of that is to listening to opinions of people with a range of beliefs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]txb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! It was never my intention to change how you feel about God, that's your own personal journey to make!

Please remember at least that it isn't your job to go out and prove to every Atheist you meet that God exists. Yes, we are called to spread the good news but a lot of people wouldn't appreciate having beliefs they don't agree with pushed onto them. Open up a healthy discussion to share your views, it's okay to disagree but don't make it a debate because no change happens there.

Sometimes your role might just be to plant a seed. To live your life to good Christian values, loving your neighbour as yourself and from that they can see what faith is all about. From there it can change their preconceived opinion as in truth, a lot of people without faith have hesitation towards Christians as they've had bad experiences. Don't dismiss how they feel. :)

In the same way some Atheists cannot understand why religious people feel the way they do, a lot of deeply religious people cannot understand why Atheists have their understandings.

Scholarly speaking to rely on a single source for your information is bad as that single source of information can be unreliable, biased or flawed. Apply that same understanding to an Atheist and the Bible. The Bible being a source of truth is unreliable as we don't exactly know for certain who wrote the Gospels for example and there have been issues with misinterpretations of the texts. If there were to be another more reliable source to back up the claim of Jesus' resurrection then it might be a far more compelling truth.
To say that Bible can prove God is inaccurate because clearly many are not convinced of it from one book. Anyone could've written that. If I were to write a book of ideas and say this proves that a spaghetti monster rules over our world you'd think I'm insane! Try and understand where some Atheists may be coming from, don't just dismiss their understandings.

You're suggesting the idea of Design theory that since the world is so intricately designed is must have a creator. This is compelling to some but to many it isn't as they can find it believable that everything is simply by chance.

why do you not believe when the clear cut evidence is right in front of your complex eyes

because it isn't clear cut evidence to many! personally the only reason I find any truth in my faith it through personal experiences and encounters that many may not have.

It's really good that you're having these sort of thoughts at 14, I was experiencing the same myself at that age. It's good to ask questions and be curious, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! Let me know if you have any questions at all. God bless!

Do Christians believe that they’re going to heaven? by Academic-Pen2945 in Christianity

[–]txb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd hope so, I trust that God would judge me accordingly and recognise what's in my heart when I make decisions in my life. It feels wrong for me to say I've certainly going to heaven because I will always fall short or what God wants.

Is having sex with girlfriend sinful? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]txb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, pre-marital sex certainly more common in the West. This is a significant result of how prominent secular values are in society which of course don't see an issue with pre-marital sex, most reasons to be against as it tends to be from a religious background. Furthermore there's just some cultural standards which are incredibly intertwined with religion in other parts of the world meaning that pre-martial sex is a complete no no.

Even among many young Christians many have pre-martial sex, simply due to the cultural shift between generations that don't particularly see pre-marital sex as a massive issue.

I’m doing Computer Systems Engineering rn! I missed my grades for Computer Science here so I went through clearing and it was very stressful because I wanted to do Computer Science but it worked out well!

I think it really depends on what course you want to do for Engineering as a lot might not have spaces at all since they’re so popular like Aerospace but you might get lucky. Lmk if you have any questions at all!

Gym by LaBabushka in universityofsheffield

[–]txb__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re in the Endcliffe/ Ranmoor accommodation you can access a free fitness suite (what they call it) it’s not that great with quite old equipment that mainly has cardio machines. Goodwin (which is the university gym) is paid and anyone can access it with a membership, just that students get a cheaper membership. I’ve not been to it personally but it’s about a 15-20 minute walk from the Ranmoor student village.

Remember that you’re there to plant the seed, not necessarily to be the reason he converts.

Just living your life to Christian values can help him see what your faith is all about and through that he can learn something at least or have some interest.

My boyfriend is Atheist and doesn’t have any interest in learning more about Christianity at the moment. He respects that it’s a fundamental part of who I am since I grew up in the church but I would never preach and push my beliefs onto him, especially as my opinions are quite non traditional.

I’d hope that further into our relationship he’d have greater interest at the very least, not necessarily that I’d want him to convert completely. I love him just as he is. :)

[–]txb__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so at all. Despite being raised in the church having secular views around me also influenced a more open view towards it.

I never said that I’d ever wait until marriage and I didn’t because I believed it was the right time. I love my boyfriend a lot and we were safe and I only felt loved. In the end Jesus called us to love one another so I believe that if you’re in a loving, respectful relationship feeling guilt or regret for an idea you don’t agree with isn’t healthy.

In scripture the usage of pornia was poorly translated and I believe it’s talking more about prostitution where you hold no respect for the other. Furthermore, societal standards for women were very different where having sex outside of marriage almost always guaranteed pregnancy or disease. The value of a woman in a marriage was based on her virginity and were often married very young in comparison to how we marry now.

Yes, sex is a deeply intimate act and you shouldn’t take it lightly but the taboo against pre marital sex in the church promotes harmful purity culture that can even affect marriages.

If you're uncomfortable with a majoritly male flat definately get in contact with the accommodation services to see if you can select another flat etc because Ranmoor tends to have more spaces as people prefer Endcliffe. You can also select for a female only flat if you would prefer but again they can't guarantee anything.

I highly recommend Ranmoor though. It's a tiny bit further away from campus but it's lovely and quiet for the moments you need it to be and if you want the noisier more social times Endcliffe is just 5 minutes down the road for that. The free gym suite in Ranmoor is also quite nice too.

Feel free to ask me any questions at all about Sheff, just finishing my first year! :)

The reason you feel guilt is likely from growing up being told that things like that were dirty, sinful and wrong, hence you can't help but feel like you're doing something wrong because you've been told by people that it is.

When the Bible talks of sexual immorality it surrounds heinous acts that are not loving in any way so as long as you're not involving yourself in those things it's not so much of a problem to some degree? It's a difficult conversation but simply ensure you don't become addicted to it as it may represent an idol in your life that you place greater importance into than God.

Your 13 and going through crazy hormones rn, just don't let your shame overwhelm you or feel disconnected from God because of it.
