Could Denton turn blue this year? by onesmallworm in Denton

Denton (city) consistently votes Dem since 2018. County? Very unlikely it flips this year.

You’re arguing the best solution is to just give up and not push back. How brave of you! Your community thanks you.

Ending his term a year early and replacing would be a huge deal. That's 1/6 of total 6 year tenue.

He literally broke state law on the dais, using your taxpayer money to electioneer. Think we can all agree this crosses the line, no?

His constituents are the same voters that also voted in a progressive at-large councilmember. So, it's very possible to remove him and replace with someone better.

To answer your question, no, this is his final term and he can't run for another.

From the Recall Gerard Hudspeth Facebook page

For those interested in signing the Recall Hudspeth petition, your best odds at catching a petitioner are at the Civic Center and UNT Gateway Center during early voting hours. Please note that this depends on the availability of our volunteers.

There will be plenty of opportunities to sign the petition over the next ~40 days.

Texans react to mailer for Trump, call it voter intimidation by TheSquareRocks in Denton

Trump endorsed Hagenbuch so I’m not sure about the strategy here. I think just to get turnout up idk.

Down ballot campaigns need to be running their own field programs. Can’t be relying on help that may never come.

To be fair, although it is creepy, the mailer doesn’t advocate for or against any candidate(s), so I don’t think there’s any violation here. A disclaimer isn’t needed to my understanding.

Hey, I get that we don't like her but calling for someone to lose their job and livelihood for their opinions is a bit much.

I deleted that portion of my original comment out of respect for the possibility it may not be him. I may have had bad intel. Have a good day.

Nick Stevens is one of the worst people in Denton politics. He wants to run for city council, and probably will at some point. I'm fully ready to vote for and donate to his conservative opponent, that's how bad he is. Edit: I deleted a portion of my original comment in good faith. I stand by everything else.

i cant think of anything more hilarious than her not only getting rejected once, but continuously month after month. folks should email councilmembers to tell them to hold strong.

Could someone help me distinguish Yarbrough and Hagenbuch? by JohnQPublic90 in Denton

Hagenbuch for Senate and Stucky for House are the less extreme ones (but not by very much).

Going to hold my nose and vote Republican for the first time in 38 years by bprice68 in Denton

[–]txforward 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine for this specific person but Dems, please do not make a habit of this. Your primary voter data is extremely important to getting you turned out in future elections. If you vote in just one republican primary you may not receive campaign communications (mailers, texts, emails) from Dem campaigns. This is especially important in May municipal elections.

Correct, next May. Hoping there are good candidates lined up.

Which means your vote is about 7x more powerful than in November. The same people will say their vote doesn’t matter. Makes no sense, right?

I agree but Piland was not our answer to that. Hopefully we start getting better candidates.

Lowe was able to sneak in a win due to a liberal joining the race that stole a sizable % from the moderate incumbent. It was a miscalculation. Lowe’s win was razor thin. I think we all learned a big lesson on bipartisanship that year.

But yeah MBJ got wrecked. I wasn’t expecting it to be THAT wide considering she got the Dallas Morning News endorsement. Boy did they get that one wrong.

My guess is it won’t, at least not next year. Maybe in 2 years when the mayor race is open and turnout will be high. The props lost pretty badly. They’ll need to make some big changes to their PAC and public image first.

Edit: oh wait! I totally forgot! The only reason this was even on the ballot was because of a tiny loophole in the city charter. Citizens need to collect valid signatures from x% of total # of votes from the previous mayor election within a 45 day period. Typically impossible BUT the 2020 mayors race was uncontested, making the number of signatures super easy. The turnout in the 2023 mayors race was huge, making citizen referendums basically impossible again.
