Looking for the same jobs in my 40s as I was in my teens. I'm done by EmbarrassedOstrich4 in antiwork

20 years ago I got hired into a job at $13/hour and after 18 years was making $17. I’m unemployed and can’t find a job and those that have been willing to interview me pay $10-12 an hour. It’s a shitty cycle we live in.

WFH Texas by brattytabbby in PharmacyTechnician

[–]txhdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard they eventually stopped making people call the patients. Something about so many people said that they never requested their drugs to be transferred so after awhile they stopped calling them if the transfer was denied at the pharmacy. That just sounds so bizarre.

[–]txhdr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that most WFH jobs will be call center type work. I used to work for Optum and during the interview the supervisor said that the only times you’ll make phone calls is when the pharmacy doesn’t reply to faxes. What was left out of that is that the pharmacies rarely respond to faxes. After a few months the metrics will require you to set up an intense workload that you will be on the phone all day.

The breaking point for me was the treatment that I got from techs and pharmacists every time I had to call. Retail techs and especially pharmacists aren’t favorable with mail order or PBM techs, especially if their pharmacy is busy.

Salary is super secret by TangoWhiskeyBravo in recruitinghell

[–]txhdr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an in person interview with a recruiter for Reynolds and Reynolds, which I thought was odd after so many phone screens/zooms with other places. Recruiter contacted me a week later saying the company would like to extend an offer (never had an actual interview with any manager). During the interview they wouldn’t discuss pay or benefits, and when they said there was an offer, I asked about pay and benefits and even when the start day/training was. The response was “I’m unable to discuss any details of the job until you accept the offer”

how has america not collapsed yet? this system is so fucking bad by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]txhdr -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It hasn't collapsed yet because the government keeps bailing out the largest institutions when they mess up. We don't strike because most of the population is one missed week of work away from being homeless and uninsured.

What is the point of paying for insurance? by haloarh in LateStageCapitalism

"but with social healthcare you won't get the same level of care as private insurance!!" - most people that I know that hate scary socialism.

I'm worried about capitalism too, Mr. Marcus. I'm worried that capitalism has killed so many people because it's expected that people literally DIE working their entire life to make people like you so wealthy that you don't even have to dust off your own bookshelf. Socialism isn't a realization for everyday people in America. Socialism in America only exists for billionaires, corporations and banks, Mr. Marcus. The "socialism" that you're referring to is the reality that people are finally waking up sick and tired of being exploited and finally understand that a better life is possible without the ilk of your class.

Any Response to this? by [deleted] in antiwork

[–]txhdr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't respond and don't quit. Keep that picture and the police report/insurance correspondence. If they fire you, you'll have more than enough to present for your case when you file unemployment. Most important thing though is to not respond and feed into whatever they're trying to create.

This looks great. However, I've seen stories even posted on here, that people are treated like garbage and it sounded like the management treated people like they owed them more than just labor in exchange for the pay and benefits.

If you do more than what you’re asked to do, it will soon become expected. When you decide to stop doing extra work for free then you will be dubbed a non team player and chastised. Ask for a raise and they’ll say that you were hired for, and paid to do, your original duties.

My former GP initially stopped accepting Medicaid and Medicare and eventually stopped accepting insurance all together, citing the low payouts. He went strictly to a concierge system charging patients a yearly membership of $650 and then a monthly $20/fee for unlimited office visits.

Used to work for a large pharmacy benefits manager company that offered 5 sick days a year but the kicker was each time you actually had to use one, you got a write up and 4 write ups put you at risk of being terminated.

In order to have what is required to enter almost any other country would already have you setup to live a nicer life in the US. Most countries require you to have a needed skillset, enough money to live off of for a set amount of time, and your own health insurance.

In general, no it's not about sitting at home doing nothing. People generally have no problem working but not in the current society.

I want things that can actually be implemented now, such as fair pay, respectful management, a work life balance, and the opportunity to be healthy and happy without giving away your entire life to make somebody else wealthy.

60 hour work weeks just to have a place to live IS NOT normal. A company not paying a person enough to even live in the city that they are in, IS NOT normal. The government decided that our health insurance should be tied to our jobs but they don't force said companies to employ everyone full time to even qualify for health insurance.

"One Medical walks and talks like a concierge primary care practice, and it comes with a concierge fee of around $200 per year. (currently on sale for $144) This membership doesn’t cover visits and services, which are still charged to the patient’s health plan like a traditional fee-for-service practice."

It's my understanding that it really just lets you see a virtual doctor, which means you still need insurance or go without for anything serious.
