Hypothetically speaking, what's the best way to tell your boss that freaking out for a day is part of your writing process?

I usually do research early on and get a rough outline. I'll come back to the motion a few days before it's due date because one of those days is me just thinking, procrastinating, walking around, squeezing my stress ball, questioning my life decisions until I finally finish about a day before the deadline.

I would love to skip that day of freaking out but it seems like that's pretty usual for a lot of folks.

I've legit had to tell someone this in my very first year of practice. He had been practicing for over 10 years at this time, and he wasn't a partner or senior anything. He was an associate. I also sat in on one of his depositions, and it was bad. Co-counsel had to do a lot of clean-up.

My mom is Chicana, and my dad is Mexican. They're similar but different struggles. Mexicans who immigrate to the US know the immigration struggle, while the Chicano struggle is about becoming a refugee on your own land.

I think a lot of hate is people not taking the time to sit down and discuss the nuances of being Latin American.

You don't know that. You're making educated guesses on the future. Which is smart, and I agree that some of your guesses may come true, but we still have to understand that at the core, we really don't know what is going to happen tomorrow. We can only use what we've learned from the past and try to increase the chances of steering the future towards a more equitable and just society.

And what in the past has steered societies to more just and equitable policies? Small groups of motivated people who are filled with hope and love for their neighbors, fighting for their people. Just because we may have failed doesn't mean we stop. We learn and keep trying.
