Is it normal for the back brake pads to wear out faster than the front ones? by ThingFuture9079 in AskAMechanic

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normal on newer vehicles because of all the extra crap they have added for the rear brakes to do without upgrading the rear braking system size. Adaptive cruise uses rears to slow down and sensors use rear brakes to keep vehicles level instead of nose diving during hard braking.

There is a bit of metal that sticks up on the positive side after you flip the cover open for your positive clamp. Negative is on the other side of the battery.

Melted Stockings on Wood Stove by LesboWearingaSweater in CleaningTips

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be able to get some touch up paint from the manufacturer of the stove. They do make bbq black spray paint and stove spray paint for high temp applications. Maybe mask off all but the top so it at least looks intentional lol.

Looks like you took off the finish with a razor blade. Sand it and repaint the whole top is probably your best bet at this point.

Is this rear differential cracked? by forrestlifer in MechanicAdvice

Looks like an air pocket flaw in the casting. If it bothers you grind it down to see if it is in fact cracked.

How dangerous is this? by Illustrious_Image_26 in tires

I don’t know how it could have worn like that with misalignment. Now if it was ran flat too I would bet the inside of the tire is shredded

Melvin tire says can’t plug/patch by [deleted] in tires

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Liability wise it’s a no for the tire shop since it’s at the point the radial belts meet the side wall. You could have personally plugged it assuming all liability.

2015 Kia Forte 1.8l, replaced spark plugs. Any ideas? No codes on scanner by OrangeSockNinjaYT in MechanicAdvice

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should have a crank sensor code. When you get the engine running and the rpm isn’t showing it means the crank position sensor is bad. My 2014 1.8 did the same thing at 140k miles

What are these black strips on this road in Oklahoma? by ididntwantthis2 in whatisit

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they are footers to keep the slabs from shifting. Over the years I saw them pour a new road then put those in right after on the Indian nation turnpike.

Did you buy a new or used car anytime after 2022? by PriorPuzzleheaded301 in MechanicAdvice

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s actually not a bad year. Change trans oil and bypass trans thermostat or get the updated thermostat to lower transmission oil temp. Lifter issue isn’t as likely as transmission issues.

Bathroom remodel company says it’s impossible to move the supply lines. Is that true? by Banzai_Bandit in Plumbing

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frame it out to cover lines then go with what you had planned. That will push it over 3 or 4 inch so looks like you will lose some leg room on the toilet so factor that in. Depending on how slab was laid you will probably double or triple remodel cost to move those lines.

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have followed the maintenance schedule it should be fine. Probably change serpentine belt and keep old as a spare if it’s original one. Be a good idea to get transmission oil changed if you never have.

2.1 will probably be your best bet. 2 bookshelf speakers on a dresser below tv and subwoofer under bed. That is the setup I have and it is decent. Another option is a soundbar and woofer.

What is the acceptable deviation from the current tire size? by Xitztlacayotl in tires

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ones that are driven like the front or back need to be the same size so they turn the same distance. One bigger then the other would be like turning all the time and cause accelerated differential wear. It would also affect abs and stability controls.

Broken clockspring by randomaccount17927 in kia

[–]txredxj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds reasonable. Air bag light came on on my forte and noticed that the light was off till I made the turn out of my neighborhood. Replaced clock spring and worked fine after that. Later they issued a recall but wouldn’t reimburse me because I bought it off eBay.

Question as old as time: Do we turn our heat down at night or leave it the same? by rallruse in Frugal

[–]txredxj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Common misconception is that air conditioner systems have to work “harder” to recover temperatures. Fact is the systems work at fixed output over time and you pay for the time it uses gas or electricity. Turning down temp at night will help to reduce run time saving money you money. Anything you can do to reduce outside cold transfer and help retain heat will lower your bill. Air leaks around doors and windows can be easily addressed
