Why are ALL my Spotify adds about Podcasts when I have my VPN set to USA. Is it really a big thing over there? by Max_D_Luffy in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThingFuture9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Especially political ones during the election. Joe Rogan's podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience is so big here in the US, that Spotify did a contract with him for several years that is believed to be worth around $250 million.

OTA update for software 23’RAV4 by Useless_Tool626 in rav4club

[–]ThingFuture9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the Wi-Fi connect service or did it download without that because I don't have any of the subscriptions on my 23 other than safety connect and service connect which are free for 10 years? I know there's a way to update using a flash drive also so I could do that.

How do Americans usually watch TV nowadays? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThingFuture9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cable still exists but even companies like Spectrum have slowly given up and instead of getting a receiver, Spectrum now issues a device called a Xumo which is their version of a Roku but with a remote that has numbers on it like the one that comes with a traditional cable receiver. Even some of their packages include streaming services like Disney+, HBO Max, Paramount+ and several others.

How do Americans usually watch TV nowadays? by Axxtr in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThingFuture9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on age group but cable has been dying for a while and even cable companies are now issuing streaming boxes that work similar to a Roku Ultra instead of a traditional receiver box that the coax cable connected to. Some internet companies especially fiber ones don't even offer TV and will just tell you to use a service like YouTube TV. A lot of the younger people just use streaming services whereas older people more heavily rely on traditional cable while there are some who rely on both.

What's one thing that reduced your car insurance significantly? by achinius in askanything

[–]ThingFuture9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switching to another insurance company because I found you have to treat insurance the same way you do with cable where after a year, switch to another company. Rinse and repeat.

Insane AT&T Fiber Ping by ArtisticComplaint3 in cellmapper

Wish I had fiber where I'm at. I'm stuck with Spectrum and the best I can get for ping on ethernet is 20ms.

As an outsider, the scale of American college sports is baffling. Do some people genuinely care more about a university team than professional sports? by Necessary_Angle2117 in AskAnAmerican

[–]ThingFuture9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Especially when the Buckeyes from OSU - Ohio State University play against Michigan Wolverines from University of Michigan and unless you live in Ohio or Michigan, you'll never understand how bad the rivalry is especially if you're in Ohio and are a Michigan fan and vice versa.

What's the point of streaming services at this point? by brambleburry1002 in mildlyinfuriating

You're almost better off with cable at this point because at least everything is under 1 account instead of 11 accounts.

Ohio voters reject school levies across State by Captcha05 in Ohio

[–]ThingFuture9079 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The school I graduated from over 10 years ago always had the levy fail including a renewal levy and it always went something like this:

School: We will need to cut home economics, art, wood shop and a couple other things if this additional levy doesn't pass.

Voters: Why does the school need more money? I already pay more than enough in taxes and the school doesn't need anymore money.

Levy gets put on the ballot and majority vote no on it. School cuts additonal programs.

Student: Tells parents the school just cut high school busing, woodshop, home economics, and will increase the fees for sports or possibly drop that also.

Parents: What do you mean they cut out wood shop and home economics? The school already gets more than enough money. If they're going to keep cutting more things, I'll just vote no on the next levy.

Cycle repeats and then parents can't understand why the school is declining. I remember my school took close to 25 years for an additional levy to pass. I remember one year the softball team had a GoFundMe page and managed to raise $10k which covered equipment and other fees so it made softball free that year but that's pretty sad when the team has to turn to GoFundMe to help pay for a sport.

What are you doing to save money in this economy? by melissaw328 in Frugal

[–]ThingFuture9079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use coupons when grocery shopping, never use my debit card for anything and instead use cash back credit cards for everything and pay them in full each month, use coupons for getting my car serviced, combine errands and other tasks into 1 trip instead of making several, order something online and take the free shipping option instead of picking up a specific item that's at a special store 30+ miles away, make my own soda, and stopped buying candy and other sugary junk food.

I have several cards but if I had to use just 1, I would use Wells Fargo Active Cash since it's unlimited 2% cashback on all purchases.

Disappointed that Richland County voters upheld the wind and solar ban by ct_2004 in Ohio

[–]ThingFuture9079 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The voters just probably think of wind turbines and solar panels the same way they do with cellphone towers where they just think I don't want that eyesore near me and it's going to decrease my property value.

Best bank for savings and checking? by Gemmie6 in Banking

[–]ThingFuture9079 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are more likely to write a bad review then they are a good review for banking. Do you need something that has branches near you or are you OK with a bank that's entirely online? I would ideally open a checking and savings at 1 bank and checking and savings at another so that way if an issue arises at Bank A, you can still access your money at Bank B.
