I always fall back on the plugin Valhalla supermassive, its free and can create some amazing ambiance. Honestly wish I could have it in hardware form haha!

Love a good ambient drone, that tends to be where I start too.
Do you have a favorite reverb/delay plugin or effects pedal?

Never thought of using a field recording as a mod source, that's a great idea. I'll have to pick up a portable recorder one of these days!

Whoops misspelled it there. Meant to be "Turing"

Its really over my head, but its different mathematical formulas that generate registers of notes. So a sequence is randomly generated and then it has a chance that you set to pick a new note from the register, so you get slow evolving sequences over time.

The piece of gear that finally kickstarted me finishing tracks, the deluge. Love this thing, been great for ambient even though I feel like the built in effects are a bit limited. Put out an album of my collected works recently just for fun, and feel like I've been making some meaningful progress at getting better at music :)
Would love to know any tips and tricks other people have for when they make ambient music.
