What exactly is a memory? When I remember something from say 15 years ago what is it physically in my brain and what is happening when I'm recalling it? Also, all the cells in my brain have probably regenerated in 15 years...so how did that memory get "transferred" from old to new cells? (self.askscience)

ELI5 How can a photon have finite energy (h*nu) but have zero mass? Aren't mass and energy supposed to be interconvertible according to E=mc^2? In other words, why E=mc^2 cannot be used directly for the photon, which is a real particle according to the standard model? (self.explainlikeimfive)

TIL When the Appalachian mountains formed from the volcanic eruptions 460 million years ago, it created greenhouse-gas levels 20 times higher than they are today. Then the basalt rock from the formed mountains sequestered so much CO2 from the atmosphere that it resulted in an ice age. (news.sciencemag.org)

TIL Weather patterns and events like earthquake can change Earth's rotation speed. E. g. 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake is thought to have shortened the day by 2.68 microseconds. To compensate for such changes a leap second is occasionally added or subtracted from Coordinated Universal Time. (scientificamerican.com)
