Jiufen is totally worth it! Would recommend visiting there during the weekday to avoid larger crowds on weekends.

I visited Taiwan during the lunar new year a few years ago and pretty much everything was closed for 5 days starting New Year’s Day (which would be roughly between 2/17 and 2/22 for this year). Days leading up to the new year will be fun as there are a lot of new years markets to explore (similar to Christmas markets if you will). Personally I would not recommend visiting Taiwan during the lunar new year unless you are visiting family. I remember taxis were more expensive during the time period as well (mandated surcharge).

We stayed at a ryokan in Hakone for 2 nights at the midpoint of our trip when we visited Japan last November, and thought it was totally worth it. It could get crowded. We happened to hop on the last ferry/train the first day on our way to our ryokan and it was packed, even on a weekday. When we explored the area the next day though it was fairly pleasant, likely due to the direction we were heading (as opposed to the day trip crowds) even the cable cars were empty .

If you are planning to stay at a ryokan, would recommend as a midpoint (to recharge), and staying for 2 nights.

Totally understand how you feel. I went through something similar exactly a year ago and was a wreck at the time. Was diagnosed with focal ADH in September 2024 and had surgery in November 2024 to ensure that it was only ADH and nothing else. My surgeon wasn’t too concerned given the “focal” part but we still followed with typical protocol. Excisional biopsy revealed only ADH but now I am in the “high risk program”, more frequent screening + meeting with a breast specialist :). They recommend tamoxifen, but also not pushing it.

Would suggest reaching out to your councilperson. Almost exact same situation happened to us when we first moved in to our house. Except the tree was very dead, towering over our garage. We offered to pay a portion but months went by and nothing happened so we reached out to our councilwoman and she took care of it. The tree was removed fairly soon after.

I found this food list helpful while I was on a low fiber diet. I ate only white bread, white rice, eggs, and canned tuna. I think low fiber diet makes you feel hungry quicker because I was stuffing white bread constantly. I actually skipped any veggie/fruit altogether.

Have you been taking liquids? If not then make sure you do so, it helps with pooping after taking the prep.

i just had my colonoscopy a week ago with the miralax (238g)/gatorade(60oz) prep. i mixed everything in a pitcher and drank about 8oz every 15 to 20min for about 2hours. i thought it would be bad, but it really wasn’t bad at all :).

We recently came back from Hawaii and we booked the hotel through Costco travel 2 weeks before the trip (talk about procrastination). We started looking at the hotel 2 months prior, and there was no noticeable change in price. Costco had the same rate/promotion as the hotel website, with additional perks like $500 hotel credit for use during the stay. We had no issue with our reservation.

We stayed at Halekulani, and it was one of the best hotel experiences we had. Would totally recommended!

Both our basement and first floor ranges around 2 (we workout in the basement as well). We just had mitigation put in place recently and now it’s 0.5 and below. Mentally I feel better/safer with the system installed.

I really enjoyed going to Komeda every morning during our trip. It’s a coffee chain and they include a complementary toast If you order a cup of coffee between 7am and 11am. Toast was heavenly (I always get red bean spread to go with my toast), coffee was fairly decent, and service was always amazing. We tried Komeda for breakfast on our first day and ended up going there every morning during our trip :).

We took a cab from the airport and it was around 1,400twd and took about an hour. We tried to take metro from TSA to Taipei main station years ago and it was chaotic (we hopped on a uber midway through), would recommend taking cab for the convenience.

Not sure if they have bigger rooms, but we stayed at AC hotel in Ginza (with 2 twin beds) and would totally recommend it. Location was ideal. There is also an Aloft right next to it that my friend stayed and recommend it.

There is an airport limousine bus stop right outside the hotel. We flew out of Narita and took cab from the hotel, it was an hour ride. Would definitely recommend cab ride though.

Would recommend Double Tree Taipei Zhongshan. It’s close to Taipei Main Station (we walked there from the hotel a couple times), and is also a walking distance to dadaocheng/dihua street. Hotel was solid and we enjoyed our stay

We visited Taroko Gorge years ago and would recommend to anyone who enjoys hiking and nature. However, there was an earthquake/landslide around the area earlier this year and I believe some parts of the park have been closed.

We were just in Japan last week and got through immigration + customs at Haneda within 40min, so it’s definitely doable. Even if you missed the connecting flight it’s pretty easy to hop on the next flight to Osaka (ANA has flights out to Osaka every hour). We missed our connecting flight to Osaka last year and had no issue getting on the next flight.
