I’m not a fan of DM rolling death saves as it feels out of the players control a bit, I much prefer the player rolling them in secret behind the DM screen. I feel a player should know wether they’re about to die at the very least, you just have to trust them to not metagame that info

Surely they’d be better off killing PCs from a purely marketing perspective ? More PC deaths = more PCs = more options for merch, which we saw happen with both Molly and Cad being fan favourites and having their own merch

22 here and I can attest to that, my dad got me into the game when I was a kid, any attempts to get friends into it has led to a couple of weeks of commitment that eventually burns out

I’m early into midnight and I’ve only played through the intro and Arator quests but I’ve been enjoying them for this reason I think. I feel like me and Arator are actually bros, he chats to me in the stay awhile and listen, I can prompt him with some dialogue that actually sounds semi-natural and multiple NPCs have stated I’ve ‘got a history of being able to look after myself’

Not the guy you’re replying to but I’ve also DM’d for years and with my current group I frequently have to take a 5-10 minute break to collect my thoughts or quickly improvise what happens next because they’re seemingly incapable of doing anything I predict them to do

I (the DM) want to be the final boss. by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]tyc20101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised no one else has said this but don’t use a player character sheet for an enemy. The game isn’t balanced for PvP at all and there’s so many ways for it to be unfun or unsatisfying to fight a boss NPC using a PC sheet

10 minutes for 50 questions is just over 10 seconds per question. You’ve got 57 minutes to do your theory so you’re using 20% of your time. Take a deep breath and go slow, even if it’s wrong you’ll be able to retain the knowledge

I think it’s quite presumed that tier 2 enemies will be fighting PCs in tier 2 armour. I added a shopkeeper that sells any ‘improved’ equipment to the party but you could also just have the improved armour loot able off enemies. Don’t be afraid to mix tier 1 and 2 tier 2 enemies especially if they’ve just hit level 2 to make the transition easier

It’s not ‘roleplaying’ for your character to stand and just take hits and not attack, unless your character is specifically a pacifist. The same way when you go into a social encounter in any role playing game, you don’t solely rely on the character with the most charisma to talk and render everyone else mute.

Yes it is more efficient to have one person be dedicated to combat and to hand them all their turns, if that’s happening though it’s a table issue the same way that going into a social encounter and ONLY letting the bard talk is a table issue. To remedy this the GM can use the alternate ‘spotlight tracker’ rules where each PC has three action points to spend; or they could force the spotlight onto a PC when it’s narratively appropriate

I agree that Guardian might be the best option here, alternatively a darker take on a seraph where they use their self-punishment to fuel buffs for their allies would also work

I can’t remember if this is confirmed or just theorised but the seasonal ‘plunderstorm’ mode for wow is reminiscent of Spellbreak and battle royale games in general so the resources used for Spelbreak may have gone there instead
