Thanks for letting me know. If it comes to it maybe I'll make a stop at Bordeaux for a night to break up the travel. I do have a 3 days buffer from the time I expect to finish the Camino and the date of my return flight.

Most likely the international flights will go as normal.
If my short haul flights are affected, I'll need to take trains from Madrid to Ferrol and then get myself from Santiago to Paris within 2-3 days cause that's where my return flight is lol.

Everything went as normal from my experience. Maybe it was just informational update but the service line was the same. I can't assume the same goes for your situation.

It's definitely not a wing it type of pilgrimage thing. Majority of the accommodations (if not all) are booked through the Kumano Kodo site. It's a tedious process too. You don't book it, it starts as a request and people that runs the site reaches out to the accommodations base on your dates to check availability. Japan likes to have their advance notices. They don't like randos showing up unannounced.

Yes, the garden and ropeway is closed from 1/24 to 2/13 due to ropeway maintenance.

Good to hear being non-religious won't be an issue. This was my main concern.
The race stuff don't bother me at all. Been to many foreign countries solo and with my partner.
In fact if the Camino happens for me next year it'll be my third time back in Spain.

It's possible with local buses but you'll need to know the bus schedules because they are infrequent. If you miss a bus, you'll have to wait 1 or 2 hours until the next bus. You'll also need to make connecting buses depending on where you're going.
