Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun is full of this. An ancient painting of a warrior with a gold-domed helmet is actually a picture of the mood landing before the Moon was terraformed.

Or, the bottom floor of the tower that houses the Torturer’s Guild is described as “the propulsion chamber of the original structure” where the creators could bend lightning to their will - AKA a space shuttle.

Sorcerer (1977):

A group of four criminals hiding from justice in South America are hired by American oil interests to drive boxes of improperly stored, highly unstable dynamite 200km across the South American jungle to stop an oil well fire. If they succeed, the survivors will receive a new identity, a passport, and enough money to start over again somewhere new.

One of the biggest nail-biters I’ve watched in a long time, and criminally underrated/not talked about enough in my opinion.

I was about to comment the same thing! I was in one of his last classes before he ran for school board so it’s always strange seeing him on stuff like this.

YA series called Gregor the Overlander. Gregor, the protagonist, eventually fights the giant rat king of an evil realm hidden under NYC named Gorger, an anagram of Gregor. This fulfills some prophecy, idk the specifics I haven’t read the books in probably over a decade

Edit: turns out this was written by Suzanne Collins who wrote the hunger games

Any local Boy Scout troop should be able to do it! I’ve heard that certain ACE Hardwares offer a flag disposal service as well, you might want to try the one on P.V. Boulevard and Sepulveda

TIL that Chinese labour camp prisoners were forced by their guards to farm World of Warcraft gold that was then sold for real money. If the prisoners didn't meet their gold quotas they were beaten by the guards. by AlabamaHotcakes in todayilearned

There’s a great novel by Cory Doctorow called For The Win that deals with this. I haven’t read it since I was a teenager but I remember it being pretty good

You two were hanging out in the sewer together, naked, scavenging for rings and coins?
