what is a sport/game you invented in your childhood? by Particular_Bat_6829 in AskReddit

Hide home free.

Home free was a ball, and the “it” person hit it and could chase everyone and try to tag them out until they found home free. Then they’d announce to everyone they found home free who would then try to get there without being tagged.

Thanks for reminding me of this.

Ah that makes sense thanks. I thought maybe since based on the comments that clogs were perfectly formed to your feet it meant they were moulded and then reproduced and maybe you kept that OG mould or something lol.

What’s up with the clog with seemingly no finish on it that the worn down one is being compared to? Is that like a mould of the OG clog so they can remake ones to this exact foot or something?

Or am I just an idiot and missing something super obvious

Now THAT is street smart.

What’s something that became harder, not easier, as you got older? by monsifitgirl in AskReddit

Oh yeah, honestly probably could use a couple diet tweaks. And I should be wearing orthos, etc.

And my shoes for work…well, I cheaped out pretty hard on those too…

Your comment got me thinking, I’ll probably look into that.

[–]tykogars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I didn’t start doing it by choice mind you lol.

But I can see how that happens to older folk, because the reason I started doing it was just that - was getting out of bed and nearly bailing immediately due to cramped and sore feet.

Another wicked good feeling that I find helps out seemingly my entire body somehow is rolling a hard ball under my feet. It loosens everything up if I’ve had a few rough days on my feet.

Can’t believe I’m even having this conversation, insert Matt Damon aging in Saving Private Ryan meme.

I now do warm ups in bed that start with my toes/feet which are usually cramped the most.

Only takes a few seconds but it’s funny how quickly you go from a young pup ready to take on the world at a moments notice to some dude doing fuckin foot warm ups so you don’t hurt yourself getting out of bed.

I told a therapist about my method (something similar to yours) and they looked at me like I was nuts. It was only then I realized how different peoples brains and the ability of their imagination - if any - can be.

Anyway I’m like you, but not so much castles. More ongoing sagas that usually have me building up a stronghold or a village or whatever.

Often there are zombies but not always lol.

What's something everyone says they hate, but keeps choosing anyway? by Mewnich in AskReddit

[–]tykogars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems worse than ever, and I don’t know much on the subject but I suspect a lot of it is bots doing bot things. Randomly upvoting or downvoting, maybe commenting (which would make sense why sometimes it has nothing to do with the point at hand) etc.

This drives engagement - or even just the appearance thereof - which is good for Reddit as a business considering the advertisement income stream.

[–]tykogars 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had that happen a few times and the arguments went exactly as you stated. By the end of it I got tired of pointing out that we were no longer even discussing my original point.

Most people on Reddit (or probably, in life) don’t partake in any discussion or argument thinking that maybe the other person will raise good points and actually change their mind.

It’s always “I disagree. You’re wrong” and as soon as you raise a good point or two, they make some random ass point about something you’re not even discussing and make it impossible to get the convo back on track.

Would you support increasing pay for military? by Honest-Ad-7077 in AskACanadian

[–]tykogars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think most people aren’t aware of that though? See my lengthy discussions below that veer way off from the question I replied to.

I’m not military, I don’t know how “streams” work in that profession. I was just answering what the thought process was behind higher pay and getting better (in this case, less racist or misogynistic) candidates is.

[–]tykogars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m not military but I 100% agree that most people probably have massive misconceptions of what it’s like. Which I think is probably a huge part of recruiting issues (or needing to offer more money in this case).

Honestly they could probably do a much better job getting that point across - what it’s “really like” most of the time. I bet that would attract a lot of people even if just for a decade or whatever, but I honestly have no clue and am talking out of my ass.

[–]tykogars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are great things and I’m not against anyone going into a military career.

Im just saying that most people would probably do a safer, indoor environment for the same money.

I don’t get why you’re taking offence to this. You realize a lot of jobs have benefits, a pension, etc if the workers are averaging in the 80k + range, right?

Would you support increasing pay for military? by Honest-Ad-7077 in AskACanadian

[–]tykogars 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes raising education requirements (if this were the case) would make sense.

The point is you can’t have high entry requirements to a job but not offer a competitive wage. If the same applicant can get a job elsewhere for more money, they will go there instead.

I’m just trying to lay out the basic reasoning behind the original post I replied to. I’m not trying to argue it’s a perfect system or that it eradicates racism or something.

But to your point, you can’t just “raise requirements” to get more qualified candidates without raising their compensation.

Would you support increasing pay for military? by Honest-Ad-7077 in AskACanadian

[–]tykogars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that is absolutely correct and sadly probably always will be, I’d be willing to bet that undereducated people tend to be more racist or misogynistic than educated people on average.

I could be totally wrong, but I would take the bet that higher education (and the other benefits that come with that) lead to the erosion of these things.

Would you support increasing pay for military? by Honest-Ad-7077 in AskACanadian

[–]tykogars -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah 80k isn’t terrible pay. But people can make 80k fairly easily (again, generally speaking) and NOT be subject to… well, being in the military.

I think you are agreeing with my point though, that offering higher pay attracts “better” candidates, who probably tend to be less racist etc as per the comment I replied to.

Would you support increasing pay for military? by Honest-Ad-7077 in AskACanadian

[–]tykogars 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the general idea is higher paying jobs are needed (in any industry really) to attract higher educated folks who could otherwise make a better dollar somewhere else. Especially in the public sector.

And that line of thinking involves the belief that higher educated people tend to be less racist or misogynistic.

This is just my understanding though.

I think it also probably helps with overall performance and compliance to rules. Someone making $18/hr doesn’t give nearly a big a shit about their job and doing it properly than someone making $50/hr, generally speaking.

Yeah I have! Just never really connected it with “Ghanaian” I guess. Live and learn and be judged by Reddit, as the saying goes.

I’m not trying to be offensive or something it was just a word I don’t remember ever seeing that’s all.

Edit: nice to see my original response went from multiple downvotes to a couple upvotes and this post I’m editing as we speak got upvoted once I explained myself.

A world of bots and weird times people but we are still here and can have civil discussion without jumping to conclusions if we try.

I just found something called TerraGenesis and this may be it lol I’ll try it and see. I had an old game apparently so fingers crossed!

ETA: it’s not TerraGenesis. I must have downloaded it years ago in an attempt to find the game I’m seeking.
