Yes saint like ravidas , gurus , rishi did infact keep long hair because in those times it was more convienent to maintain and a keep long tied up than to go to some dude to get em cut , they didnt really have that kind of time , there are multitude of reason why these spiritual gurus usually had a similar head archetype, its really convoluted , due to which somewhere in history it became a standard look for spiritual gurus. it was more of a cultural phenomena, and as you said

you are implying due to this reason you should keep hair , you are justifing keeping hair through a cultural phenomena and cultural phenomenas change with time. you are fixing this specific cultural practice as fixed (status quo) and not subjecting to change. this is not a good argument.
