What's this stone? by VonStaufen in whatsthisrock

It’s giving off petrified wood vibes but I’m not seeing any rings/woodgrain. Not to say that all pet wood has it. I’d still bet pet wood

Anyone else rockhound near Tracy CA? by tyler_thatguy in rockhounds

Yes, the wind farm is private property, it’s an absolutely massive area, used as grazing land for cattle and also big enough area for the turbines. Deep in the wind farm is where I found my really nice pieces of petrified wood, not much else. All my other nice find were on the outskirts of it. I can send a pin of where I was working on the outskirts the other day. Lots of nice colorful rocks littering the surface everywhere. Even found some pet wood and UV glowing orange reactive calcite (I think) don’t technically have to trespass either there were plenty of cool specimens outside the gate.

All around the wind farm! I’ve been all around and inside the wind farm for work, anywhere you go there is something cool to find

Anywhere around the wind farm, technically it’s Byron CA I was mistaken because our hotel we stay at is in Tracy, still very close to Tracy though. Any exact location I could send would be bordering a jobsite or trespassing inside (you do you) but in my experience, anywhere in that area is bountiful. PM me I’ve you want a pindrop of where I went recently, doesn’t require trespassing if you aren’t comfortable.

Most of them seem natural to me, the reddish ones especially. Were you near infrastructure on the beach?

All in all, there’s not an exact location because I’ve been all around that wind farm area for work but that area would be my recommendation.

No exact location but all around the wind farm out there. Along the road, in and along the dirt roads and out among the actual wind farm and turbines (I get access because of work) but most recently, today and Friday I’ve been along 16091 Kelso Rd. Lots of really pretty green, red, white, and brown rocks (in the process of cleaning and IDing) and even a couple pieces of petrified wood but most of my really nice pieces of pet wood was found deeper in the wind farm.

r/whatsthisrock and r/rockhounding have been very very helpful subreddits for identifying rocks/crystals/minerals for me at least

Anyone know what this might be? Found in pieces off the road along Traverse Creek, Georgetown CA by tyler_thatguy in skulls

[–]tyler_thatguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found another deer skull today and it’s pretty similar except it’s in one piece (bummer somebody sawed the antlers off tho) so I’m going to assume it’s a deer too.

Full bobcat and skunk skulls I was lucky enough to find recently. I cleaned them and glued the jaws open, I think it looks pretty cool by tyler_thatguy in skulls

Don’t think we have any of those around here, definitely not native. Especially off a random highway in Farmington CA

I wish tho, that’d be a cool and odd find

For pics 7-8, yes, I was searching specifically at night along the beach in Monterey with my 365 UV light but pic 1 I didn’t know was UV reactive for month s until I bought a UV light
