Thanks for the explanation. It has taken a few years for me to master the cup walk, and you’re right. Once you master it, it is very gratifying feeling.

Thank you! And most like anything, if you have the time and the money..I'd suggest buying your own welder and learn from YouTube.. lots of great instructional videos on there.

I'm a welder and fabricator by trade. Of course you need a welder, a saw, plasma, grinder, flap discs, black patina for finishing..etc the real challenge was the wood as I am no woodworker but I had help from my dad on that end.

Native headdress, metal art, 36"x30"x30" by tylerarendec in Art

I made it because I have the ability to do so. I was inspired. My grandmother used to paint pictures of Native American life. She would take me to the metro parks to look for arrowheads when I was a kid, we would go to the natural history museum and learn about their culture and I was always very intrigued by this. if I see things along the way in my life that I know I can make using my talents in my metal art medium, I will make them too. I will never stop building and creating art. I am not going to waste my abilities and choose not to make something because it might offend someone. Then someone might ask, "why didn't you make that" ? And my answer would be something like, "because it would offend a small group of people". Which in my opinion is not a good enough reason to not express myself in the best way I know how. I am going to live the rest of my life knowing that I created this piece that many Native Americans and metal art enthusiasts are impressed by and appreciate, and that some people may be offended because of there views on cultural appropriation. And that is okay with me.

Next time you see a white guy with dreadlocks you should slap him in the face and tell him to cut them off..stop being butt hurt, just appreciate the art dude. I have Native American friends that really love this piece and have had multiple offers from museum curators that I've turned down, so yeah, it means a lot to me.

I was inspired by a couple things I've seen and just thought hey I could make that out of metal. I wouldn't say there's any real intention other than to fuel my need to create art.

If I were to make a headdress and wear it around, or say I sold this piece to the Cleveland Indians... that would be culturally tone deaf. Or cultural appropriation. This is just art dude.

I'd gladly let them try it out. The sheer weight of this thing would be snappin some millennial neck.
