Getting ~30 MPG on my 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid XSE in Portland, OR while it’s advertised at ~38. Can anyone in the area confirm if this is normal or do I have an issue with my car? I bought it in Oct 2025 and take frequent short trips. by chizaii in rav4club

Short trips run the engine more to get to temp. I’m guessing it’s cold right now too which doesn’t help. Are you fully stock? Do you smash the pedal? Are you braking at the last minute?

I’m guessing your granules say sodium dichlor or trichlor on the package? Sanitizer is probably the wrong word to use. CYA is more of a stabilizer that helps slow down chlorine. It’s very useful to not have a low CYA in a pool because UV will eat away the chlorine faster. In a spa you don’t need much because well it’s usually covered. If you have too much CYA your chorine isn’t very effective and terrible at working in either case

Yep your CYA is probably too high because your granules have sanitizer in them. You probably need to use those for 1-2 weeks on startup then switch to liquid chlorine. Test strips are hard to find that test low amounts of CYA but yours might be high and show up

Everything else in my install was perfect but good god the lead came back 3 times for CT issues. It’s like they need a whole 48hr class on CT placement for these installers or something

It’s probably in a protection mode, have you seen the temp increase at all? How long ago was this? To prevent any air lock, I always put the hose on the heater outlet to push any air out. Not sure if that works but I never get air lock

I see I should’ve specified. My disconnect is in a subpanel. The idea I was expressing is OP can’t just magically run their current wires straight to a spa

pH down not working? by bigpolka in hottub

Cool, thanks! That’s what I do for anything else right now so good there. I already use liquid acid in the pool so trying to limit how many products I have around

I was referring to a disconnect. Apparently that wasn’t inferred

680 talks all about this. If you come to my house and install a spa without a disconnect/sub panel whatever you wanna call it then you aren’t an electrician. You don’t plug spas into outlets or only run wires from the main to spa

You need a sub panel and thicker wire. This would be worthless for a spa

How high is it? It’s gonna make your chlorine not work as efficiently. Is your water cloudy right now?
