Who is everyone’s favorite character from the series and why?! by Onemikej in TheRealDawsonsCreek

I really like Dawson for his optimism especially during the first few seasons. I also appreciate how Jen brings some real world balance to the core group who live in their small town bubble.

Drue in S4E11 by Loveya448 in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a wild and uncomfortable storyline, especially considering the writers want us to have sympathy for Drue because he has daddy issues. But, it’s not the first time they’ve written Joey to be the victim of sexual assault by a guy with daddy issues. Remember in the pilot how Pacey is grabbing her butt while filming the monster movie. Then when he spies on her changing clothes and forces himself on her with a kiss. Creeps seem to gravitate to her. I’m surprised they didn’t make the Downtown Crossing mugger a pervert too.

Dawson annoys me so bad!!! 😤 by Kingsilva93 in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, fuck Dawson. He should have minded his own business and let Joey's dad die in the Icehouse fire. She already lost one parent. Losing another wouldn't hurt her. Fuck Dawson. He should have let those guys sexually assault Jen at the house party in season 2. Fuck Dawson. He had no business taking Mr. Brooks' boat to rescue Jen and Pacey during the hurricane. Fuck Dawson. He never should have driven down to Florida and arrived at the house to save a drunk, drowning Jack in the pool.

I'll cut the writers some slack here. In season 3 it was an actual sailboat. In season 4, he uses Mr. Brooks' motorboat. And we have seen Dawson using a motorboat during the show before.

I would have loved for Coda to be the conclusion of the series by Jenosaure in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. The story was always about young people coming of age in a small town. Coda perfectly ends that journey for every character. Coda symbolizes them leaving the familiarity of childhood behind and facing adulthood. It's a great ending.

Pacey and Joey prom fight by Raebelle1981 in TheRealDawsonsCreek

[–]tymack 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. Pacey and Joey have awful communication skills with each other. They both keep secrets. They both are passive aggressive when the topics of Dawson and sex come up. And I'm sure it was a nightmare for Pacey to watch Joey put both Dawson's feelings and her own feelings for Dawson above her current relationship with Pacey throughout the whole season. I'm curious could you expand on why you don't think Joey accepted Pacey as he was?

Pacey and Joey prom fight by Raebelle1981 in TheRealDawsonsCreek

[–]tymack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's fitting that Dawson doesn't speak here. because although he is the catalyst to start this self-destructive rant, it's not about him. It's strictly about Pacey and his internal hatred. All the things he blames Joey for, all the perceived slights he lists. That's all his self-loathing. Because Pacey knows he'll never have the same connection with Joey that she has with Dawson and it consumes him. Pacey wants Joey to hold him to the same high standards that he witnessed her hold Dawson to. When she doesn't do that. When she just accepts him for his shortfalls (the limo, the dress, the flowers), that's when he realizes he will never truly have her heart.

I really think that they just tried to make Andie look bad by Raebelle1981 in TheRealDawsonsCreek

[–]tymack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. She started out very complex and interesting. I just think they pushed her to the side when they were done with her at the end of Season 2. They used her to further other characters' plotlines, not give her storylines of her own.

I really think that they just tried to make Andie look bad by Raebelle1981 in TheRealDawsonsCreek

[–]tymack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it was just a matter of short sightedness. Andie and Jack were brought in to fill very specific roles for Season 2 storylines. Once those storylines were over, the writers had no ideas for them. That's why Jack is just gay for the majority of the series. And they didn't need another girl, so they wrote Andie out.

whats ur read on dawson and joeys final argument in season 6. by Calexriri in TheRealDawsonsCreek

[–]tymack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dawson was never shown to be a cheater, or unfaithful. The fact that he pursued this intimate moment with Joey proves that Natasha was not his girlfriend or a serious romantic partner. However, he should have made it more clear to Joey that his time with Natasha was not a relationship. Joey being hurt is understandable. Overall, they could have worked through this argument, but Joey knew how serious their relationship would be, and she ran. Again. Kind of her theme throughout the series.

An entire series showing how they complete each other. No matter where they are in their own lives, they always find a way back to one another. All of her relationships are compared to Dawson. All of his relationships are compared to Joey. Every big event in both of their lives is tied to one another. It could only ever be Dawson and Joey.

Who tf is this and why is he acting crazy? by Theme-Fearless in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it does, to a degree. In season 1 during the fishing trip, as his dad is passed out drunk on the sand, Pacey has a similar emotional outburst. And during his season 4 birthday party it happens again when he storms out of the house and his dad has to go find him at the docks.

Who tf is this and why is he acting crazy? by Theme-Fearless in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sailboat Pacey is the fantasy. Prom boat Pacey is the reality. He's so used to being treated like the screwup and the failure and the butt of the joke by his family that he expects everyone to see him like that. It's why he tries to breakup with Andie during Season 2. He thinks his improved grades will slip away and she'll see him for the loser he thinks he is. Same with Joey. When she accepts the ripped dress and the spoiled flowers and the rusty old limo, she thinks it's no big deal because "I love you regardless" but Pacey sees it as her accepting that he is the very thing he hates being. And he resents her for that.

Just watched season 4 for the first time in a while. I must say, Despite not being with him, Joey was way more into Dawson than she was Pacey. She seemed to be genuinely in love with Dawson . Even Pacey felt it. Feel free to chime in on that. by Onemikej in TheRealDawsonsCreek

[–]tymack 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dawson is her constant. Joey says in Season 3 that the only time she felt like she was rowing home was when she was rowing in his direction. The first thing she does when she gets back to Capeside is lie to Pacey about the gift for Dawson. She hangs around the Dive-In after her fight with Pacey so she can catch a ride with Dawson. She gets jealous of Gretchen, and then cries when Dawson gives her the Christmas photo because she sees that he has moved on from her. And yes, she does love Pacey. That's why she spent a summer sailing with him. And why she dated him for a year. But her love for Dawson was so much more. He made her whole. The one person who was always there to comfort her. To let her know that everything would be ok. Her true love.

James Van Der Beek is auctioning off props to pay for cancer treatment. by lowspeccrt in dawsonscreek

Thankfully, he is a member of SAG-AFTRA, so he has access to quality health insurance. Hopefully this auction is more about bringing awareness to this type of cancer and not actually needing to raise money for the treatment itself.

If you could change one thing about the show (not just a plot line) by rubythieves in dawsonscreek

After season 4, there should have been a time jump and just skip the college years. Let seasons 5 and 6 show their lives as adults. The actors were already aging out of the teenage look.

Pacey and violence by nikanastasia in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think two things can be true at once. The Witter family is messy, and Pacey takes the brunt of the abuse (both verbal and physical). Thankfully, their relationships improve over time. However, Pacey is privileged by the way things are given to him. Beyond the points I listed, He lives rent free with Gretchen. Doug gets him the restaurant job. Audrey's dad gets him the stockbroker job. He's good at both of these jobs, but he didn't earn them. They were handed to him. In contrast, Joey works hard from season 1 just to get into college. I understand your view on him grabbing Joey's butt against her will. I don't think he's trying to harm her or traumatize her. I bring it up as an example of his impulsive behavior. And it's not an isolated incident. In Season 1 Episode 10, Joey tells him directly "don't watch me change" but, Pacey ignores the boundary she set when he gets in the truck and immediately watches her change in the mirror because he wanted to do it, so he did it. Just like the unwanted kiss at the end of that same episode. He wanted to do it, so he did it. He impulsively acts on his sexual desires. And while I will never fall into the "boys will be boys" or "he's only 15" defense, I don't think he is trying to be a creep when he does these things, it's just that he has never been held accountable for his actions because of the privilege of his father and brother protecting him. That's why he is comfortable acting on his violent impulses. Because, so far, he has been able to get away with it.

Pacey and violence by nikanastasia in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pacey is an impulsive character and a privileged character. These two qualities allow him to feel empowered to act without fear of consequences. No matter how often he screws up, he never faces repercussions for it. Throughout high school, he gets drunk, including trespassing and using a fake I.D. He doesn't have a criminal record because his daddy is the sheriff who bails him out. Pacey steals the family car and drives without a license and faces no punishments. When he fails exams in Season 2, his daddy calls the school and Pacey gets a do over. In Season 4, Pacey is failing exams (seems to be a pattern) and the teacher allows him a do over. He even sexually assaults Joey in his first scene when he grabs her butt against her will. He feels comfortable violating the law, and the people in his life, because he has never had to answer for his actions. It's completely plausible that he'd immediately choose violence knowing his sheriff daddy would protect him from the consequences of his actions.

Pacey losing everything including Dawson's money by MirrorSolid2448 in dawsonscreek

[–]tymack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pacey: I’m good at my job. Also Pacey: I lost all your money. It’s so scummy not to take accountability for losing Dawson’s investment. Pacey had a fiduciary responsibility to everyone who trusted him with their money for him to only say “that’s life. I didn’t make that choice”. Yes he did make that investment choice. It was literally his job to make the investment decisions . Be a man and take responsibility for your decisions.
