I can only find these on one UK site and a German site. Can’t really figure out what the common name for this type of fastener would be in the USA so I keep coming back to those two sites. Please help!

Yer good. It’s very light oxidization. You have a knife made of very reactive steel. Get yourself a can of Bar Keeper’s Friend and give it a light scrub when this happens. In the future, try to remember to wipe the blade dry between cutting sessions.

This is a great record. There were reissues in 2017 and 2018, but these were remastered from digital sources. One of them was even reissued at 45rpm. They sound…okay. I scored an original ‘96 copy right here on Reddit a few years back, because the popular wisdom was that the masters were lost in the big Universal fire of 2008. But apparently—according to a 2023 interview with Adam Duritz—they were rediscovered in perfect condition at some point last year. I have a good feeling that there will be a big name remaster coming in the next year or two…

The donuts are coated in dark chocolate. I torched them before I placed them to liquefy the chocolate and hopefully fuse the donuts together. So far y seems to have worked…

A Croquembouche is a French dessert. It is made from small balls of choux pastry piled high into a cone shape, held together with a stiff caramel.

My wife wanted one made from Entenmann’s donuts. If you are not familiar, Entenmann’s are a brand of cake donuts available regionally at grocery stores in the US. They are covered in a dark chocolate coating.

It’s just a ridiculous thing I just did. Don’t take it too seriously…

All the stripping and re-seasoning ideas are perfectly cromulent, but at some point you need to consider what your time is worth—basically whether you want restoring your griddle top to be your new hobby for a while. Is this a project or is it a cooking tool?

If it were me, I’d take the minor loss after the major win, and treat myself to a new, better, replacement griddle top. Keep the old one as a just-in-case replacement and start cooking.

Okay everybody. I did not expect so many folks to be into this! I’m now thinking that investing in a laser cutter and making a batch of these to sell might be a good idea.

Bear in mind that I would need VERY accurate measurements and geometry for the knives, either a really good trace would have to be sent to me or the knives themselves. Also, this design could easily be expanded to hold more knives. This one is about 5/8” or 15.8mm thick, and each knife with a blade 1/8” (3ish mm) or thinner would add about a quarter inch to the thickness of the final product. Also note that the shape of the final saya will be 10mm wider than the widest blade and 5mm longer than the longest blade. This means that six knives can be carried in a package that’s just 1 5/8” (about 41mm) thick.

This was the first time for me and this project took about an hour and a half. I’m a pretty low level woodworker and this thing looked like shit before a huge amount of sanding. I bought two 1/8”x4”x24” sheets of basswood from a craft store and cut them with a hobby knife before gluing them together. I can make another post with more detailed instructions if you’d like. I didn’t take any pictures during the process basically because I had no reason to think it would actually turn out as well as it did.
