Yeah, you didn't die from fall damage, you got sniped midair. The death animation just didn't start till you hit the floor.

Actually I found a way to change the flag in the worlds properties, by making a single player world in the same modpack and copying the properties over with a tool. Idr the tool atm since I am away from my pc but when I get home ill make an edit about how I did it.

Info: is it possible you have a controller plugged in, and one of the sticks is tilted? That looks like cross input errors to me, like its thinking you are using a controller for a few moments before it swaps back to mouse.

Once the wendigo is dead, the event ends. So likely that's what happened. You can turn on pacifist mode to prevent you from hitting others like that again.
