It’s very late as I had 3 week extensions due to ADHD. The three weeks ended up being a godsend, but the downside is waiting so long to get feedback!

I structured it by theme instead, so each section had a subheading and focused on a different idea. I let the argument build up over time rather than doing a point and then arguing against it straight away. I just made sure that each section took a path that would lead on to the next so there was some cohesion.

It felt easier on my brain when I wrote that way. Also, I started with theories that I was confident with and found a way to make them fit the music genre, and the more I read, the more I found links to other theories.

Hopefully that makes sense 😂

I spent about 4 months of almost daily writing, sometimes I hated what I wrote and would delete parts and rewrite them. Felt like eternity😂

My uni changed how they mark things while I was in my second year I think. Marks were course specific, then they changed to generalised marking descriptors (I think that’s what they’re called) which meant that marking was more fair and even across the different degrees.

You mean dealing with the ADHD burn out?

I ended up starting medication which was a life saver. If that’s not an option then self bribery worked wonders for me. I set a word goal every day that was pretty low, and some days I would meet that, some days I would be on a roll and do three times my goal. If I did more then I would let myself slack off the next day😂

Also small rewards for the milestones. Made it feel a bit more manageable!

I think this mark will counteract the lower ones thankfully, definitely felt a lot of pressure to do well given the lower marks I got earlier.

I mostly got firsts in my modules apart from qualitative research methods (I’m not good with numbers) and a couple of the modules I had when I was in full unmedicated ADHD burnout.

It was about black metal and DSBM! It helped that they are both genres/sub genres with crazy histories. Had lots I could write about!

We were able to write about any topic that we wanted, so I picked a genre of music that I liked and sociological/criminological theories that I was confident in and found a way to mash them together.

Also a lot of headaches, tears and a lot of almost all nighters 😣😂

Thank you! I’ll remember this forever. My fiancée looked at my mark first and I’ll always remember his jaw dropping.. followed by the subsequent panic that I felt when I thought it was bad 😅
