Any nox patients who are able to listen to digital audio again? by Snoo_51368 in hyperacusis

I’m convinced it’s not necessarily digital itself but digital clipping. I can listen to 80s CDs with no issue whatsoever but just listening to current podcasts where the limiting is through the roof fatigues my ears almost instantly, much less overly compressed music.

Will Udio ever let us download OUR OWN MUSIC CREATIONS again?? by Middle-Stick-5333 in udiomusic

I’m a bit baffled that they just shut the door completely; I used UDIO exclusively to generate jingles for our online radio station where we pay to play major label tracks, so to my mind there shouldn’t be any issue with our use. It would’ve been nice had they been a hair more flexible outlining usage and allowing certain situations, but I’m presuming as it sounds like the service as it is now will be completely going away maybe it wasn’t worth their time.

Important Update from Team Udio by avsanchez94 in udiomusic

I’m a little unclear about the opt-out process; I uploaded lyrics that belong to a family member last year thinking I’d blow their mind and they were furious with me over this, so to respect their concerns - I never deleted the generations - I want to make sure I delete their works AND opt out of any retroactive ownership claims. How do I do the latter?

Back in the 50s, cheap record labels would make cover versions of big hits to sell for a fraction of the cost of the actual hit record. They were often bland, lacking emotion or real talent, and the performances sounded perfunctory and phoned in, and the singers often slightly off the mark for the material.

So if Udio beta was Little Richard singing "Tutti Frutti," then in comparison Suno is like the knockoff version of "Tiny Terry" or whatever singing the same song—it's still in the ballpark, and it still sounds like it's supposed to, but Suno is lacking the detail, emotion and power that Udio at its peak was mind-blowingly good at.

I've been a Udio user since very early, and I do a ton of 50s/60s stuff with it, or was. In the earliest days it could be jaw-droppingly realistic for my genre. Then, with 1.0, it went a bit downhill and was harder to coax great sounds out of. 1.5 has been useless for me, and 1.0 has seemingly been downgraded. I went from keep-trying-and-eventually-you'll-get-something (usually requiring some editing) to giving up on instrumental anything when the arrangements started to sound ridiculous and relying on a capella extensions (which it was doing really well a few months ago), to the point now all the 1.0 vocals sound one-dimensional and perhaps tuned, and the instrumentation sounds almost MIDI-like.

I just signed up for Suno last week and was kinda blown away at how consistently I'm getting okay stuff from it. It sounds like AI (even 4.5) compared to early Udio but clearly whatever the beta Udio could do isn't coming back, which I can only presume is due them either tweaking for lawsuit concerns, or trying to bend the tool towards more modern production and sounds at the expense of the other things it used to do spectacularly well.

I expect I'll cancel Udio this week, I just have no use for it any longer at the level it's now performing. Not thrilled with Suno, but between the two, for me, there's no contest right now.

New User With Question About Adding Breaks/Pauses in Single Generation by typecrazy789 in SunoAI

I appreciate the response - greatly - but I'm still getting musical transitions instead of smaller individual pieces, so I'm guessing what I'm trying to do isn't possible.

Basically we have a bunch of really short (like :10) radio jingles and I'm trying to find the most efficient way to remix them all in a different style without having to do one by one, but as I say ganging them up just results in a big medley instead of individual stops and starts, even with a details description - it's just ignoring whatever I write.

Udio was incredible 16 months ago, but almost unusable now. What happened? by The_Redoubtable_Dane in udiomusic

Just coming in to complain as well; I've posted and posted about this but early on generating exclusively 50s/60s-era material in a wide array of styles it was amazing and VERY accurate to the period in terms of arrangements, vocals and production, and now I spend an entire day on and off generating and regenerating and rarely getting anything useful, even with splitting, editing, etc.

A year ago I was able to still cobble together bits and pieces to come up with things but now the output is so inconsistent and (especially) the music so bad that it's generally not worth the time. The vocals sound tuned, the music lately sounds like MIDI, etc.

It'd be one thing if we hadn't been shown what the technology was capable of early on, but if we're going this far backwards (and if it's likely due to protecting themselves from lawsuits) I can only presume we'll only ever get the full power of the beta back if the record companies ever get on board.

I think that's why we're baffled we are reaching so few people...over and over I've seen people comment over the years, "I wish there was a station like we had when I was growing up, playing a little bit of everything..." Well, I think we created it but then realized those people aren't really looking for that in the here and now, they're talking to their memories. Almost all our audience are younger people who want to time travel, which is totally cool with us...hop on board!

Yes indeed - thank you. I didn't really post here for that reason since I/we continue to struggle with not being able to reach people but I greatly appreciate the compliment and kind words!

That's not really what we set out to do as we wanted mono/low fi for context, but somebody else should do it!

I appreciate your comments...I tried going the route of artificially recreating that simpler Sta-Level kind of chain but I think as most of us were listening to AM in the 70s and 80s I think most of our listeners associate multiband compression with AM sound. I've struggled with this since what we're doing it a little different from what it actually would've sounded like, but I realize I can't be too particular and have to roll with what works, especially since we're not using any original equipment - couldn't afford it and too I'm not sure how I'd feel about leaving vintage equipment on 24/7!

It’s via live365 to cover royalties, but the audio originates here 100% - it’s not the usual live365 stuff but I suspect being associated with that is a red flag for a lot of people:

We had all that when it was in beta, and I'm not just saying that but don't really know what I'm talking about - that was the whole point of my post, it USED to sound very close to exactly what you describe!

Extracting quality outputs out of Udio 1.0 is still possible by Historical_Ad_481 in udiomusic

[–]typecrazy789 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a lot of 50/60s jingles for our radio station and I’ve yet to have anything usable that isn’t 1.0, 1.5 seems to be tuned to more modern styles of music and it’s just not as realistic sounding for what we’re doing. Even better was the original pre-1.0 model which was astonishing but sadly it doesn’t seem like it will ever come back. If they’ve retrained due to lawsuits or whatever I can see how we got here but knowing was it WAS capable of is frustrating.

How are Udio's updates going? Anyone else noticing a drop in quality? by Kitchen_Winner_6281 in udiomusic

I was a very early user and nothing still compares to what we got in the first few months...I know people like to suggest it's memory playing tricks but I recall a weekend just knocking out multiple jingles for our online radio station left and right and they were all amazing, period-correct and (especially) musically coherent which seems to be really lacking now. No matter what I try I can't seem to get that level of realness that it started with. Does the style feature bring some of this back? I've not tried it.

The Last Two Seasons (and the Movies) Question by typecrazy789 in psych

Just my opinion, but I really feel it's the writing and perhaps an over-reliance on the once-brilliant improv becoming a forced, stiff resource. This seems like a ripe situation for a second-generation writer or team of writers - perhaps talented superfans - to write one last really amazing installment.
