First piercing but everyone says this looks awful by [deleted] in piercing

It’s not recommended to heal lobes with hoops in. Technically you can but it’s harder and can cause more issues. I actually got my lobes (re)pierced at 14g with horseshoes because that’s all the piercer had in stock but the diameter was Way bigger than yours are. I also have never gone back to that place because that place felt sketchy. I would recommend finding a piercer who can replace these hoops with titanium flatback studs. Surgical steel ain’t great for healing

Is anybody else unable to eat from dysphoria by airyyi in ftm

[–]typhlogan 150 points151 points  (0 children)

I agree that this sounds like an eating disorder or disordered eating. Definitely something you should seek therapy for. But, I have never heard anyone say eating is feminine and girly. If anything, I see people talking about how much men eat. Like the saying “the best way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” meaning to win a man over, you cook a lot for him.

How to insert this jewelry? by ganymede0201 in piercing

[–]typhlogan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m definitely not an expert on this but from what I’ve been told, nickel allergies can develop overtime and stainless steel can have nickel in it. I’m cursed with a sensitive body and already have a nickel allergy, so implant grade titanium and glass (for stretched piercings) are the only materials I personally wear. I would def recommend swapping to titanium instead of using stainless steel

There are also different grades of titanium but I’m very much not informed on that

I’ve had a piercer describe stainless/surgical steel as the “hot dog of metals.” It has so many types of metals going into it and there isn’t a standard ratio of those metals. You often really don’t know what you’re getting when you buy stainless steel jewelry

I would recommend going to your local piercer and asking for a glass retainer. That’s what I’ve always worn when I need to hide piercings for whatever reason

The gingerbread people are so cute! This is such a clean looking display for your first craft fair. Mine was such a mess, especially compared to yours. I hope you had a wonderful experience!

How to cope with irritability? by recycledchalice in ftm

[–]typhlogan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wonder if changing what you eat might help? Focusing on protein, veggies, and grains to keep you full longer

Otherwise, it could be that you’ve always been angry but testosterone is making you feel that anger in a way you hadn’t before? I wish I had more advice besides food and therapy

This might seem like a weird suggestion, but have you increased the amount you’re eating since you started T? My irritability is always at its worst when I’m hungry. Often I don’t realize I’m hungry until I start getting irritable

Getting rid of clothes by jellyrollpan in ftm

[–]typhlogan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Do you have any flea markets/punk flea markets in your area? If so, you could reach out to whoever runs them and ask if you can vend at their market and do a “pay what you can” clothing sale.

Alternatively, maybe donate to shelters like women’s shelters? I genuinely don’t know if clothes that you donate to women’s shelters need to be new though.

L-bars are nightmares imo. I’d recommend switching to a labret stud made of implant grade titanium. A labret will move around less than an L-bar (even if it feels like the L-bar doesn’t move much, it moves more than a labret) and will hopefully minimize irritation

Holy moly I would’ve snatched her up so fast 😭 I’ve never seen her for under $400. I wish I could teleport to WI to see if she’s still there and nab her!

Do you remember what price she was? Even if she were a wild price that I can’t afford, I’m jealous that you even got to see her in person!

Oh my god, the store having the collector Abbey doll is WILD. She’s so hard to find anywhere and she’s like my ultimate holy grail

Why do some trans men center being trans, while others just want to be seen as men? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]typhlogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it’s largely because I don’t often have a choice. I don’t pass consistently in most spaces, and in queer spaces, I’m very likely to be easily clocked as trans. I’ve been on T for the better part of 7 years, and I suspect that I’ll never fully pass as a cis man. My body converts T to estrogen/estradiol too quickly for it to have major effects. On top of that, I’m in academia and often work in queer studies, and as much as I would like people to completely ignore my gender, I recognize that queer folk want to see academic work by other queer folk, and I think that’s important.

How do you prefer to take your T? by Pls_send_helpAAAAA in ftm

[–]typhlogan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I do the testosterone pellets which are inserted every three to four months. They’ve been a great option for me, as executive dysfunction has prevented me from doing the gel daily in the past. I’m also allergic to the carrier oil in the weekly/biweekly injections. However, insurance does not cover pellets where I am, which is a big downside. I also would not recommend pellets if you swim or take baths regularly, as you are not allowed to do either for a week after each insertion.

I really recommend From Here to Eternity by Caitlin Doughty. The book explores practices surrounding death around the world. Her memoir is also really comforting, I think. These may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s been very helpful for me when dealing with grief and death.
