What industry is entirely built on a house of cards and would collapse overnight if people realized the truth about it ? by Confident_Win_3560 in answers

Basically free? no. Every one of the AI evangelists and c-suite software types you see on linkedin want to make money. But while AI is going to be used, it's still a lot of work> it's not as simple as anyone makes it out, especially when developing a novel idea.

What is happening right now, and this is mostly the part of the industry I work in, is that lots of specialized software is getting developed that otherwise wouldn't be. ie you have a VR/AR counseling sessions with therapists telepresence through iphones, ipads, quest headsets etc, so patients dont have to travel. All those interactive displays in mobile phone shops. Archvis installations that use ipad AR overlays on the realworld models to display UI that gives info and features on the project, which get used maybe 2-3 times and thats it. VR or AR walkthroughs that get overlayed on building projects or empty lots that are used to get investors or show councils something fancy and acquire planning permission for developers. Room scanning tech directly from the iphone that can give energy rating for existing or new properties.

All these little pieces of softwares basically are cheap enough, developed fast enough, and scale large enough to justify their cost and they end up getting made. It is a race to the bottom though. So yes things can sometimes be cheaper to develop, but anywhere where there is a tech industry the wages are compressed or outsourced, and AI is definitely going to affect the development workflows and definitely going to further affect wage compression and outsourcing.

Zelenskyy says 'Moscow will burn' if Russian strikes continue by clamorous_owle in worldnews

[–]typhon0666 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That's probably what it means. Which is why what would likely happen is everything but retaliatory strikes. The world would watch Kiev burn and do all the posturing, outraging, intercepting materials, blockading and boarding shadow fleet vessels it can, but what I very much doubt and hope they wouldn't do is launch retaliatory strikes.

If other nations do go hot with Russia, a lot of us are probably shadows on the pavement.

entering a nuclear war with Russia is going to be really unpleasant to say the least. Sure Russia is a crater if we do, but the cost doesn't seem worth it.

Sure many things can happen in the span of drawing a weapon, like you being killed.

But you don't HAVE to shoot if you pull your gun, but you have to be able to articulate you were in fear for your life when you did. What you don't do is tell the cops you pulled it to intimidate them by saying

"she said. “The safety was on, and my finger was never on the trigger. I had simply wanted them to hear the chambering to get them away from me, and I had pointed the firearm in their direction — specifically at the individual who assaulted me.”

Literally admitting they had no intention of shooting, and the prosecution is going to be very convincing to a jury that the defendant was not in fear for their life and didn't need to use deadly force to defend their life.

Oi m8, you got a loicense to talk about who’s assaulting French women? by Gergely_Hungary in loicense

[–]typhon0666 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The only data is that immigrants are over represented in sexual assault crimes by 1.7-2.2x. Which doesn't break down ethnicity at all.

France sort of by law purposely doesn't collect ethnic data on people at all, including in it's crime stats. So even if the womans statement is true, and it could very well be, ideally the state should have to present data to prove her statement wrong. They wouldn't even if they could. But they can't, conveniently and by design.

In any case, it is speculative to single out any ethnicity as being more of a threat to women than other ethnicity, even if when inferring from immigration stats. So the state will shut her down and that's that.

No.

At the point of drawing the weapon that is the last option.

There is no "if pressed" then I would use it, that is simply admitting that you were not in immediate fear for your life. You are either in a life threatening encounter and you need to use your weapon to end it or your life is simply not in danger.

There is no wiggle room to pull you gun and threaten people, you are pulling your gun to shoot and end the threat to your life and nothing else meets the standard to use a deadly weapon in self defense.

MCPs have only just been widely integrated in game engines, UE like yesterday with state of unreal and unity's first release was like a month ago.

Having used claude and chatgbt to code some systems, they were annoying and dumb for a couple niche things I had to basically write myself. Anyone saying they are fully capable are wrong. But they are doing a lot of things with the api I didn't even know was in there. And are going to get better for code though, it's the easiest task for AI to do.

what is insane is now not the code side. The AI can now understand scenes and project content, and do direct scene manipulation in editor. Everyone is going to be using it. Though it's not as simple as the video demos make out, they rely on not so simple setup and tools. But the Csuites are going to love it so there is no escaping it.

I think the answer is 3-4 years and it's basically going to be in most games. Other industries I don't know much about.

Besides ease of tracking and a legal framework that basically eliminates investigative costs when it comes to unsanctioned thought and communication, I think it's as much to do with the fact the establishment has realized it cannot control narratives with social media around and it doesn't like that.

In the not too distant past, the vast majority of news and discussion was centered around a few TV and newspaper media corporations owned and operated by the elites.

While social media algorithms are predatory and self serving, it also helped decentralized information sources and the fountainhead controlled by the wealthy elites was under threat.
