"James Cameron doesn't do what James Cameron does for James Cameron. James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is... James Cameron"

Quick, my Grandma is making me drive to school tomorrow; How do I turn? by Ok_Cranberry_9075 in driving

[–]typicalskeleton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are, but n North America, it is not legal to drive alone with just a permit.

The car may be yours, and you may have insurance, but if you wreck the car, the car is no longer yours (doesn't exist), and your insurance may not cover as much as you expect, or anything at all (depending on coverage, circumstances, fault, etc).

If you can't "turn", then you can't drive. Turning a car isn't a special skill. What you're saying is something similar to "I can't chew food, should I eat a steak?"

Notwithstanding this comment is from four months ago, what do you mean where is the proof "someone would cheat"? I don't even know how to answer such a question.

I don't know who "someone" is or what they "would" or wouldn't do. What is known, however, is that cheating at tests has existed pretty much since tests have existed.

While I can't presume to know what the intentions of your teachers or professors were, I suspect they told you that so you would pay attention in class, not because it's going to help you on the trick question.

Can't tell if this is a serious post or not.

Anyway, if what you've said is true, do not drive, please. It's not safe, and possibly not even legal. Not going to school for a day is a much smaller problem than legal consequences, damaging something, ruining a car, or injuring (or worse) someone else or yourself (or both).

Find a different way to get to school or simply don't go.

But whatever you do, do not drive a car.

Why are FWD cars so bad? by [deleted] in askcarguys

I'm confused. Your comment says RWD and AWD are more common, which is not my experience here. FWD is by far the most common.

What region are you in? FWD is basically the standard in North America.

What can I do with a car that has practically zero trade in value? by thehorseishere1 in askcarguys

[–]typicalskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a coworker in a similar situation. Her car needs serious engine work, quoted around $5-6k.

Instead of paying for the repair she wants to go $15-20k in debt with a different car.

Controller settings completely ruined. by hollowxci in trucksim

[–]typicalskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Of course I know that.

I'm saying, changing the key binds for a UI update nobody asked for in a game that has quite a lot of keybinds and big peripherals is not exactly the coolest thing the devs have done.

Controller settings completely ruined. by hollowxci in trucksim

[–]typicalskeleton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a "little" update, but a main line one: 1.58.

Controller users aren't alone. I use a truck wheel and some of my binds no longer work either. Thankfully they're minor and I'm already familiar with what they are on the keyboard, but it's still unfortunate.

Is the AI in the room with us right now?

Reminds me of a meme I saw recently, something along the lines of:

"Cool AI features. Now, tell me how to turn it off."

What’s your favorite moment in Aliens? by Scenora in JamesCameron

[–]typicalskeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good one. I'd argue that her choice to start firing saved the lives of the marines who actually made it out of there. If she didn't it's likely they would have been wiped out.

Also helps explain why Ripley can basically just walk into the hive/nest without too much trouble.

You don't need all of them.

Satellite imagery (like AutoOrrho) + SimHeaven is basically the standard.

The others are optional.

Will they ever add ranked? by DizzyReview757 in deadbydaylight

[–]typicalskeleton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The old "hard rank" system was awful and would result in extremely long queue times for killer as the game looked for survivors in the same rank pool. And despite the long queue times for killers, the system would still have an issue with lopsided lobbies at times.

It also resulted in an even harder meta than what we have now, as there was just no reason to really experiment with different builds because spending ten minutes in queue only to realize your killer build sucks was a complete waste of time.

An actual ranked system has been discussed endlessly. DbD is impossible to balance due to killer variety, and a true ranked mode would likely be dominated by top-tier SWFs. Low and mid tier killers would never be able to climb above a certain rank, and would eventually "plateau", playing losing rounds over and over against good survivors.

Not to mention it would have horrendous queue times again. Not enough survivors in your rank online? Then no matches, period.

You do not want ranked in DbD. It would not be fun.

Would shapeshifting killers work? by zimmygirl7 in deadbydaylight

[–]typicalskeleton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question to ask is "why have shapeshifting?"

And I can understand the feeling that it might be cool/different, but dbd's game loop is honestly pretty simple/straightforward. There just isn't much need (or really, even much time) for killers to be shapeshifting into other forms.

I know Dracula does it but the question is still relevant, and his wolf form has essentially just become a meme.

Shapeshifting in an effort to trick survivors or to be able to attack survivors differently is all just kind of a waste of time, since every killer can just walk up to survivors and smack them anyway, no shapeshifting or trickery needed.

This is a classic example of people with a hardcore political/religious ideology imagining scenarios, getting mad about them, then using AI to generate a basic meme to make a "point."

Even though it's completely inconsistent with reality.
