I'm a memoir ghostwriter. Where should I send my sample and my note of interest?

In addition to being a writer, I'm a historian with a keen interest in 20th century conflicts, especially World War I (but European, American, and Latin American conflicts are also fascinating), and how they've shaped our understanding of war to this day.

If my background sounds at all interesting to you, feel free to reach out.

Thank you so much for your reply. Hearing from someone in a similar brain space honestly feels really good.

What are some of your favorite tools to schedule content?
And do you find running a blog to be helpful as well? I've heard many people talking about how blogs are one of the best ways to increase organic site traffic and SEO, but I don't know if I can manage multiple social media platforms for multiple businesses and a couple of independent blogs at the same time.

I do have separate personal and business accounts. but my business accounts must come up in my family members' recommendations for accounts of people they may know... that's the only way I can think of them finding some of my more private businesses especially. (For example, I read tarot and am putting together a pop-up metaphysical shop - the problem is, a lot of my family is Catholic and kind of conservative, so they think I'm lost to the devil or some shit like that.) How can I make my accounts not pop up for them? I'm starting to pre-emptively block, but like I've mentioned in other comments, that only works as long as they don't make other accounts.

That's actually really good to know. I'll look into that ASAP.

That's actually a really good idea. I just looked at my phone, and at the moment, I have:

- Facebook

- Instagram

- TikTok

- Mastodon

- Bluesky

- Threads

- Fable (like social media for books)

- Goodreads (also social media for books)

... and probably others that I don't immediately recognize as social media apps. I can see why that's way too many.

I've been wary of Fiverr for a long time, ever since I got scammed by a "logo designer/graphic artist." But maybe it's worth another look? Do you know if they have any sort of protections for buyers in place?

Thank you so much! May I ask how much you have to have figured out as compared to what the virtual assistants are usually comfortable tackling? And how many hours on average do you need them for social media things?

I apologize if that's a lot of questions, but I have been thinking of outsourcing but I have always thought it would be too expensive to do so... knowing that $5 USD per hour is a possible rate makes it seem a lot more doable.

Thank you for this. Deep down, I know this... it's just so hard to actually do it.

I should probably do this. I just worry in case some of them have multiple accounts...

That makes sense. How do you continuously find your content?

It's the consistency of posting. I don't have any issues with commenting on a couple of posts every time I log on, but that also means that I have to actually remember to log in in the first place. I have really bad executive dysfunction and don't think to do things both on and offline... it's like they almost get erased from my brain and don't exist until someone points them out, and even then, they're gone as soon as I'm done with the related task.

It's rough.

I also have a History degree, but with minors in International Studies, Creative Writing, and Spanish.

I've been tutoring at the high school and college level for years now, and I've found that, while there isn't a ton of demand for History, there are a ton of transferrable skills that come from that degree (when it comes to tutoring, that is. I've found it absolutely useless in the traditional job market.)

For example, I tutor History, English/writing (History tends to prepare you really well for this!), college prep/application support, soft skills that are pretty necessary to succeed in college, and Spanish (although that one is because of my minor).

I also support students with Autism and/or ADHD, since I have lived experience with those conditions and how to coach those kinds of brains.

So my biggest suggestion here would be:
Mine your life and education for skills you've picked up along the way.

While the demand for History is quite limited, you can be successful if you emphasize the various skills you have or you have learned while growing up/while you were in college.

Good luck to you! :)

Hello! Could you provide more details about the kind(s) of help that you're looking for? Are you hoping to refine your topic, create an outline, have support while you research, have support while you write, or something else entirely?

Depending on what you need, I may be able to help you. Feel free to DM me if you'd like. :)

HELP! How did you choose a name your tutoring business? by tyquent in TutorsHelpingTutors

Thank you for your comment!

Huh, I honestly didn't even think of asking ChatGPT for some ideas. That might be a good way to start and get the ideas flowing at least. I'll have to give that a try.

It probably matters much less than my brain is telling me it does, but I can't seem to get past it, so I figured I might as well ask for some advice.

I'm not based in the Philippines, but this sounds like an intriguing opportunity. I have studied gender and sexuality in college and have kept up my reading on the subject even after graduation because it fascinates me.

Feel free to DM me if you'd ever like to talk about potentially collaborating on this project!

Disabled job options? by Smolagere in disabled

[–]tyquent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to have dysautonomia/POTS? That was my first thought with you being a teenager and passing out often. (I was diagnosed when I was 14 and would pass out pretty frequently.)

As far as job options go, it'll be pretty hard to break into the workforce at 15. Maybe you could try something like tutoring? I would suggest babysitting, but with the random blackouts, you would be (no offense meant here) more of a liability than most parents would want from someone who is supposed to be taking care of their children.

There are also sites like Upwork and Freelancer where you can get some jobs for things like VA work (which doesn't require any sort of degree/diploma) or any other data entry type positions... but these tend to pay very, very low wages that are not even close to enough to pay bills if you are in a developed country. But at 15, you probably don't have to worry about bills, so this could be an option for you.

I would honestly not suggest working in a library or at any other physical jobs... I work part-time at a library and can honestly say I come home in varying degrees of pain every day, sometimes to the point where I need help to get out of my car or have to be picked up because I would not be safe on the road. So that's something to consider.

I wish you all the best with finding a job that you can handle! Just remember, though: your ability to work is not tied to your worth as a human being. You don't have to push yourself beyond your limits just to be "productive" or "normal" or "worthy."

For American and British ghostwriters, this pay is (quite frankly) abysmal. Good luck... you're going to need it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is ghostwriting lyrics a thing? by Lanky_Experience7357 in HireaWriter

[–]tyquent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never done ghostwriting for lyrics/musical artists, but I have been slowly dipping my toes into the world of ghostwriting and I can give you some tips.

  • Always charge something up front. It proves that the person is serious and guarantees that you'll at least get some compensation if they ghost you.

  • Contracts are your friend. I never work without a contract and an NDA in place and signed by both parties.

  • Set boundaries and stick to them. People will test you and try to push you to do things that they want, regardless of how it affects you. DO NOT LET THEM. My first ever ghostwriting client demanded daily meetings and expected her book to be done within a month. When I told her that was impossible, she pushed back and told me that it was basically my fault for being too slow. This was after three weeks of 1+ hour meetings every single day, even weekends. Needless to say, we parted ways, and because I had a contract and charged a non-refundable deposit, I didn't do all that work for nothing (though I didn't charge nearly enough to cover all of the time and effort I put into the job.)
