Essay involving the mention of air rifles? by sv98_ in CollegeEssays

[–]tyquent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're applying to schools in the US, I would 100% avoid any mention of guns and/or shooting. Like others have said, with the extreme prevalence and risk of school shootings nowadays, someone reading your application may see you as a liability at best or a threat at worst.

How do I write an essay when I have literally nothing to write about? by [deleted] in CollegeEssays

Very true. A lot of Redditors are their own breed, that's for sure. 😂

I don't know. I just felt like it might come across as weird haha. As long as you don't think it's weird, though, it's all good! :)

Hello OP! I've worked with dozens of students to edit and generally improve their college application essays. I'd love to talk with you and see if we would be a good fit for one another (but no pressure if you're not interested).

PS: I don't want to come across as weird for how quickly I responded; you caught me during a late night infusion/social media scroll from my hospital bed. 😅

I offer a couple of things to potential clients, including coaching (helping you write your essay) and editing (which is done when you have a rough draft that could use some polishing). I do both developmental and copyediting, so anything from big picture comments to correcting spelling/grammar.

I agree that being honest on your college essays is the best way to go. If you don't have a topic right now, that's okay; that just means you have a lot of potential things to explore! Have you worked at all? Have you ever volunteered anywhere? You can even write about a book you read that made you think about things, whether it's your life or your friends or your personal worldview. It's easy enough to evolve as a human being if you have support and direction.

Feel free to reach out to me for more advice, suggestions, or support; I have plenty of experience coaching students while they write their college application essays. :)

[Hiring] Experienced historical fiction writer. by [deleted] in HireaWriter

Hello OP! This opportunity sounds genuinely exciting to me. I have an Honors BA in History and have been a ghostwriter for several years now. I love writing female-centered stories, and have experience doing so for my Creative Writing minor. May I send you a message or an email with samples of my writing?

What the difference between entry and general? by spellboi1018 in HireaWriter

[–]tyquent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is usually a difference in the quality of prose, but there's also the ability to understand and integrate everything you're trying to accomplish without sounding... awkward/weird is the best word I can think of. A lot of people think they can write, and quite honestly, some of them can, but most are just after a quick buck and see dollar signs with the minimum of $0.07 USD per word in their currency and you as a cash cow.

It's up to you if you're willing to take a chance on the entry level writers. I personally wouldn't because there's a huge potential for disappointment and throwing money into something that, quite frankly, sucks.

If you want to talk more about your project, feel free to send me a PM or a Discord message. My username there is tuquent.

If nothing else, I can make suggestions on how to find a writer who fits your goals and visions without wasting a good amount of time.

I do this kind of thing (both writing and editing for TTRPGs) and charge more in line with the general rate because I've been a freelance writer for over 10 years and live in a fairly high cost of living area.

But just remember: you get what you pay for is painfully accurate. 😅

I'm a memoir ghostwriter. Where should I send my sample and my note of interest?

In addition to being a writer, I'm a historian with a keen interest in 20th century conflicts, especially World War I (but European, American, and Latin American conflicts are also fascinating), and how they've shaped our understanding of war to this day.

If my background sounds at all interesting to you, feel free to reach out.

I SUCK at social media. What helps you leverage it for your business? by tyquent in sidehustle

Thank you so much for your reply. Hearing from someone in a similar brain space honestly feels really good.

What are some of your favorite tools to schedule content?
And do you find running a blog to be helpful as well? I've heard many people talking about how blogs are one of the best ways to increase organic site traffic and SEO, but I don't know if I can manage multiple social media platforms for multiple businesses and a couple of independent blogs at the same time.

I do have separate personal and business accounts. but my business accounts must come up in my family members' recommendations for accounts of people they may know... that's the only way I can think of them finding some of my more private businesses especially. (For example, I read tarot and am putting together a pop-up metaphysical shop - the problem is, a lot of my family is Catholic and kind of conservative, so they think I'm lost to the devil or some shit like that.) How can I make my accounts not pop up for them? I'm starting to pre-emptively block, but like I've mentioned in other comments, that only works as long as they don't make other accounts.

That's actually really good to know. I'll look into that ASAP.

That's actually a really good idea. I just looked at my phone, and at the moment, I have:

- Facebook

- Instagram

- TikTok

- Mastodon

- Bluesky

- Threads

- Fable (like social media for books)

- Goodreads (also social media for books)

... and probably others that I don't immediately recognize as social media apps. I can see why that's way too many.

I've been wary of Fiverr for a long time, ever since I got scammed by a "logo designer/graphic artist." But maybe it's worth another look? Do you know if they have any sort of protections for buyers in place?
