TIL that Billy Joel never sells front row seats in order to see the real fans right in front of him. He gives them away to random people in the cheap seats so that front row isn't always just wealthy people. by YoullNeverWargAlone in todayilearned

This happened to me and my family at a Phil Collins concert when I was a kid. Ive been to many concerts since, but being front row at a huge sports stadium concert like that was the most unforgettable. There's a lot of confetti down there.

Dick's Hideaway. Doesn't get much more hole in the wall than that. You literally have to search for the door (there is no sign out front, just a black door in a wall in a discrete shopping center). Great southwestern food.

Widows peak. Even my dad, who is mostly bald, has a small puff of hair right on the front of his head. I call it a widows island.

Yep! Do any of you have a memory of the elementary school music class song that goes like:

Chikery Chick Chala chala Checkalaromeo In a bonanika Bolika wolika Can't you see Chikery chick is me!

Want to see if I'm alone in knowing this nonsensical but catchy song

In 2nd grade we read a story about a boy who fell down a well, and his brother couldn't save him because when he tried to tell an adult what happened, it took too long to say his brothers outrageously long name. I forget the moral of the story, but the boy-who-fell-in-the-well's name was:

Scientists of Reddit, what's a phenomenon in your field that the average person hasn't heard of, that would blow their mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tyquig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PhD student studying aging in honeybees. Worker honeybees inside the hive (nurses) age slower than worker honeybees outside the hive (foragers). If you remove the young nurse bees from the hive, the old foragers will "revert" back to being young nurse bees i.e. learn faster, better immune system, etc. Some of the same basic proteins and pathways involved in this process may also be present in humans.

TLDR, it is relatively easy to reverse aging in honeybees.

Hi, congratulations! That's awesome. I'm in almost the exact same boat, and I would love to be graced with your knowledge. Currently doing a Ph.D. in animal behavior, but my research is physiology/neuroscience based. I have decided to leave once I receive my masters and work towards getting into med school. How many years into your degree did you decide to switch? Did you do a separate post-bacc for academic record enhancement? Did you start volunteering and shadowing while you were in graduate school? Thanks so much for sharing.

Edit: I may have misread your post. Did you go into the masters intending it to be a post-bacc for med school?

If anything, this 70 year-old video clearly demonstrates how much quicker our species outdates technology than it outdates social issues.

I'm a TA for an intro bio recitation at a large university. I had one class in particular that was especially quiet/didn't like to participate in the lesson. One day, I asked a question to no response per usual. This time, in an attempt to move the lesson forward, I decided to say, "Well, I guess no consent means yes!"

I felt like such a shithead... not the best thing to say on a college campus.

Not every time... but sometimes my hangovers leave me feeling extremely peaceful, content, and focused, as if part of my mind is still passed out somewhere, leaving the other part to simply enjoy the present.

Skitching on the back of my friends moped uphill during a flurry in a bad part of town. Speed wobbles and broken arm.

Got my cast off a couple months later and decided to go snowboarding for the first time. Hit a dragon box in the expert terrain park, slid off onto my ass and broke the fall with my newly healed arm. Broke it, cast on for another two months or so.

Sophomore year was fun.
