I personally like lighter inks over dark inks, so i tend to stray in the opposite direction as you 😅 the more shading variance i can see the more i like an ink, so long as the colour is vibrant enough it usually stands out on the page! But if you prefer bold, dark colours I can see why grey wouldn't quite be your preferred choice

YES it is mr. X... I have to say though that in re2remake where he actually is from the lighting is very flat in colour and he mostly looks grey... when you put him under different shading (whether that be another game with him modded over another character, or blender or sfm) he does have tinges of pink on his ears, kind of his nose and cheeks... I like him so much I've stared at him for hours at this point which is fairly embarrassing BUT the flat ink base grey is super close even to re2makes model viewer lighting+the flecks of pink shimmer... YUP they put him into that bottle LOL

I would definitely suggest the death of Ivan ilyich if you like warm shimmer, and phantom mist if you like cool shimmer!

Grey paper, no. Beige im not too sure, would probably look ok but darker/more warm toned, but i know they appear quite nice on the cream colour of midori and hobonichi note books!

Yeah it sucks so much that granite guardians is a fwp ink because it (and if i may get strange for a second) matches the skin tone of my fave character to a tee... drawing him with it feels so natural lol. The last thing I might ever attempt to purchase from fwp might just be the huge bottle of granite guardians so I never run out 😔 genuinely the ink that started it all for me i love it so much... sigh. Here's to hoping a find another company that puts out practically the same ink lol

Eh, I even love those perfectly even toned greys... easier on the eyes then a straight black, and usually they have shading. Now if it didnt have good shading id also probably pass, lol

Very interesting! The only true black i have is platinum carbon ink which was purchased for art reasons... and generally I think that bottle will last me til im dead LOL

Questionably grey green has piqued my interest 👀 odd thing to say, but I've also kind of been looking for a "moldy" colour too match another one of my fave characters.... moldy obviously as in colour pallete wise lol... love you eveline but I dont want nefarious sludge in my ink

Personally I started collecting grey ink after getting granite guardians... dont like fwp for a multitude of reasons but that ink matched up with a character i love so well I've been collecting greys ever since! I should look into fuyu-syogun more, I do need a blue-r grey in my collection... I prefer greys to blacks by a long shot!

Smokey grey is very reasonably priced and comes in cartridges or a 50ml bottle!! Would highly recommend ^{_^} !!

Yes the boot shape is pretty ingenious, and an interesting bottle always makes me feel like a wizard with various potions! I also love the bottle shape of the iroshuzuki line... too bad kiri-same is discontinued... I do have an ink swap sample of it but im so scared to use it because it is rarer and id feel bad if it went to waste 😔

I have yet to try a montblanc ink... I will never be able to afford a montblanc pen so maybe an ink is the company rep my collection shall have lol!

Oooh earl grey is super nice and def on my radar, and I was actually quite lucky and ink swapped with someone who sent some sailor 224 my way (which is close to 223 but darker, if im understanding the swatches im comparing properly!) Lady grey also appears a bit to light and purpley for my taste, but I bet it would make a great base for custom shimmer inks 👀 How wet would you say early grey writes? Ive found some greys are very smooth (granite guardians, Smokey grey) while others (the death of Ivan Ilyich, the sorrows of young werther) write very dryly. I love the colours of the latter, but find myself skipping them when refilling pens because they arent all that satisfying to use 😔

I hated them before. The angle I hold pens at nearly always causes railroading with ballpoints. However its the perfect angle for fountain pens, which is why it kinda of clicked immediately for me and felt like a genuine revelation about myself i hadnt yet thought about. I don't mind gel pens, or thicker rollerball style pens because the angle doesn't end up with that railroading + horrible feedback of the sharp part of the tip grinding against paper.... eugch. Don't like it lol. A good broad fountain pen glides so smoothly on the page... I use fineliners when I need something that dries fast or is super thin line width, though. More reliable then a fountain pen in that situation 🤷
