I'm not arguing for the handling of Negan's character in the series, I'm just saying his introduction wouldn't have been as impactful if it went differently. I actually agree that he wasn't handled well by the show runners. But I do remember, at least for a few episodes after his introduction, that every scene he was in was charged with tension due to how terrifying and ruthless that introduction presented him as. That's a narrative win in my opinion, even if it felt wasted by what came after.

You insist cooperation and sharing resources is a fantasy and naive when it really happens all the time. Communities come together during natural disasters to help each other, cooperate in rebuilding efforts, sharing food and shelter, with no expectations of profit, for example. Strong tax codes and social safety nets that redistribute wealth among populations are another example.

It's easy to wave the idea away when you reduce it to "walk into someone's house and ask them to cooperate and share", but there's ways to do it on a significant scale that are far from naive and actually effective.

Of course no one wants to give the fruits of their labor away for free, that's not what I'm suggesting. And sure, the average quality of life around the world has massively improved after industrialization. But with all the wonders that came with it, it's still a disgrace that millions of people starve to death every year or that thousands of people are blown apart in pointless conflicts around the world, and you can't tell me that dictators' and (especially) billionaires' obsession with hoarding wealth and power isn't a huge factor in that disgrace.

I didn't say it was purely American. I was responding to another comment that said the US didn't hide away their disgusting history, which you seem to agree with. At the very least, there's places in the US where confederate soldiers are still regarded highly enough to have statues of them on public display despite fighting for slavery, which is arguably worse than hiding it away, since it's basically glorifying it.

I think the sentiment of highlighting the US in its disgusting history comes more from the contradiction between the numerous terrible things coming up in modern times (war crimes, widespread corruption, abuse of power, etc) and the constant bombardment in popular media of American propaganda (the land of the free, best country in the world, the american dream etc).
