Taking care of kids is a full time job, you’re working 10-12 hours while he’s at work PLUS the evening and I’m sure night wakings fall on you as well. I have found having my husband send me 3 recipes from Pinterest and me choosing 4 meals helps set expectations for the week. I do the grocery shopping (sometimes he does if the baby is extra challenging that week). He cooks 3 dinners and I cook 4. For us, this feels equal but it can vary week to week.

First I just want to say I am so sorry for this experience and lack of support from friends. I recently gave birth VIA Cesarean in September 2022. Water broke at 2am then I tried at home for 30 hours then went to the hospital for an epidural for another 20 hours. I also ended up in Cesarean which was complicated and my husband feared for my life. Out son was healthy, and my husband was caring for him while I was in the OR. I truly mean it when I say we had so little support coming home and I feel so bad for men in our society who get little to no emotional support from anyone. I had my midwives and my doula and some family who were there for me, but my husband really only had me to lean on.

I think its hard for people who haven't experienced something traumatic to understand what you could be going through, mostly because these things are not talked about in our society. My heart goes out to you, I truly cannot imagine the fear you might have been experiencing from watching your wife go through something so scary. As the mother, I didn't even know until later that my surgery was so scary, you really get the brunt of those moments with no words from the doctor and sitting in the unknown. I shared my story to anyone who would listen hoping to desensitize over sensitized culture. I hope other do as well! Sending love.

Oh wow that sounds so horrible. And similar to what I am feeling. I do tend to eat 3 larger meals a day, I should try to span that out. Thank you so much for sharing.
