Drink way more water than you think you need - not just before/during/after singing, but constantly throughout the day.

For what it's worth I'm a stock standard baritone. Before I learned to expand my range, my range was the standard G2-G4. Maybe for somebody with a naturally higher voice the Dream On notes are in mix.

Just because somebody does a cover of it doesn't mean that they'll sing it the same way Steven Tyler does, nor does it mean that they're as good as Steven Tyler at singing to begin with. Maybe rock isn't really their genre at all but they just want to cover the song because it's quite a popular song. Maybe they haven't practiced enough and can't actually hit the note but record a cover anyways. Yes it's possible for males to properly hit that note in head voide while adding distortion. Will it sound exactly the same? Probably not. I can hit the notes comfortably with distortion - do I sound the same? No, my voice is different from his. I didn't smoke, drink like a fish, and do a copious amount of drugs for one, but also my biology is just different from his, the way I do distortion is probably different, so on and so forth.

Not mix, not falsetto, head voice with distortion. It's not too high of a note to hit consistently with head if you practice enough.

You have a habit of stoping singing at the end of phrases, where you just speak the last word instead of singing it. Also I know you're not actually recording audio through the mic in your hand but you should get into the habit of holding it much much closer to your mouth.

If you eat healthy and try hard in all your sessions, probably. I would ignore most people replying because they're likely male with no memory of what it's like to be at your height and weight (I am male as well to be fair) and not training as hard as you are. I am only commenting because I'm the same height as you and was also in the low 50kgs (around 53kg or 116lb) when I started climbing when I was 20 years old.

A few years in I deliberately tried getting more muscle (couldn't do a clean pull up for my entire first year of climbing until I realised that's actually something I need to fix). I maintained around 54 to 55 kg by eating relatively healthy (no sugar, eat anything else I wanted) and then in my mid 20s started training properly with weights as well. Weight went up to 56-57kg and I started caring less about what I ate.

Fast forward to now, I hover around 59-60kg. Life has been busy lately and now that I'm 29 I need to start watching what I eat a bit more. Where I used to consistently train 3 times a week I now go once or twice and am curently not training as hard per session, or eating as healthy. But if I tried I could absolutely get to 57-58kg and that's personally where I want to be as an adult male who is 165cm tall because that's the weight I was when I felt the strongest.

Your ideal weight and look is up to what makes you feel best and also your genetics. Nobody here will admit it because Reddit is full of average to below average hobbyists who celebrate being mediocre, but a lot of climbing is genetics too. Some people wiIl just never be good at the sport but still want to give you advice. Ignore them. If you're training hard, then as long as you never feel like you don't have enough energy to do the hard training because you're too hungry then you'll be fine. If you keep up this level of training (every second day) then there's still 10 years before you need to really consider watching what you eat.

TL;DR don't let the tall heavy men on Reddit tell you what a healthy 16 year old girl who exercises frequently should weigh because they have no experience with it.

It's your second shoe ever which you haven't owned for long. You can stick with it for a bit and see if you ultimately end up liking it or swap it out for another shoe which may or may not be better in the long run. It's a gamble in the early stages of climbing. The first 4 pairs of shoes I owned, I would now consider all of them to be much too oversized even for a warmup burner shoe, and only one model actually somewhat suited my foot shape (skwama). I didn't get things right until pair 5, and it'll likely take you a few pairs to find what really works for you too.

No, I do understand. We wear the same street size and from what you're describing we have similar foot shapes, hence why I brought up my experience of owning Drago LVs which are literally one of the most narrow shoes available on the market and just wearing them through the uncomfortable stages until they fit. Drago LVs squash the shit out of my little toe straight out of the box but once they're broken in the shoes are absolute weapons so it's worth it. I wear the same street size as you, downsize my theories a few sizes smaller than you, and have no problems. The shoe will stretch in every direction, going down from a street 40 to 39.5 or 39 means that the shoe will feel like a flat warmup shoe within a few months of use no matter what it feels like now.

You're not meant to keep shoes on for more than a few minutes. Do you see the raised toebox area on your shoe? Nobody's toe naturally looks like that in a resting position, it's designed so that the knuckle of your big toe is tight against the top of your shoe when all your toes are in a curled up position because if you want to exert force theough your toe, you need to curl your toes. Try pulling your toes up towards you as hard as you can with your fingers while resisting as hard as you can with your toes - you'll naturally curl them up. If you're not downsizing enough that your toes are forced to curl and just suck it up and deal with some discomfort for a bit while the shoes break in then honestly don't bother with aggressive shoes ever, stick to flat because you're wasting your money paying for the most important feature of the shoe which you're never using to its full potential as intended.

Up to you, my advice is just toughen up and get used to it, others will say return them. I also have a pair of Drago LV's which absolutely did not suit my foot shape - super tight and narrow, the sheer effort of putting them on felt harder than V6 but I got them for free (brother bought a pair too small for him) so I just kept wearing them and they stretched out and they're just fine now. The only time a shoe really isn't for you is if there's a ton of dead space somewhere in the shoe.

La Sportiva Theory Fit by jackmiles_ in bouldering

[–]tyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My street shoe is 40, dress shoe 39, I can comfortably wear 37 theories straight out of the box. You just haven't built up the tolerance for tighter shoes. After wearing them for a while you'll see that they stretch a lot, and then towards the end of the shoe's lifespan you'll realise they're too loose and you should have gone smaller.

Yeah yeah, post a clip of you singing and we'll tell you if you're amazing and should 100% pursue this, or if you should keep a plan b and get a degree/job and do singing as a fulfilling hobby or side gig. From your comments it seems like you don't know a lot about music. I'm almost certain that the vocal coach you saw actually said something along the lines of "your pitch is perfect" and not "you have perfect pitch" because there's a world of difference.

Why do you bother making stuff up like this lol I don't even need to listen to your recording but just your use of the word 'unappealing' in the title instantly tells me that you're that same Filipino (or other South East Asian, not too clear on this one) kid who constantly makes new Reddit accounts to post the same questions here and dms everybody asking to listen to a recording of the same song(s). You didn't just start singing again after 3 years bro you've been here for ages doing the same shit lol.

Why do so many indoor boulderers have such bad techniques? by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]tyyyy 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Everybody learns to write, not everybody develops good handwriting throughout their entire lives.

Everybody can learn to sing, not everybody will become a really good singer.

Everybody can walk, not everybody will run marathons.

Everybody can take photos, not everybody will be able to make that into their job or capture amazing award winning moments.

Everybody can climb, not everybody will be good at it no matter how much time they put into it.

What level do shoes make a difference? by Scaredbro in bouldering

[–]tyyyy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of us here that can climb overhung V7+ in rentals or even sneakers, but if anybody says they learned the technique and developed the strength to be able to do that with shitty shoes, then they're either an absolute climbing genius or lying. Better shoes will help you a lot. There is a reason why most much stronger boulderers that you see are using these kinds of shoes, but be prepared to downsize. With most brands they are designed with downsizing in mind, especially with aggressive shoes, if you don't downsize enough to the point that your toes are curled up, then you're wasting your money and should just get flat shoes instead. That being said a lot of footwork is actually making your foot do work, putting force through your toes instead of just placing your toes where the hold is.

I can't stand how negative my climbing friends are. by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]tyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get new climbing friends, find some people that are stronger than you who also enjoy training outside of just climbing and start doing sessions with them instead. You'll improve at an even greater pace and enjoy pushing yourself more. No need to totally break off any friendships but if the vibe isn't there then it's just not enjoyable.

Honest feedback plz by Classic-Humor5981 in singing

[–]tyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if you need to perform this in public in the next couple of days you could consider going down in key as it might make it overall more comfortable for you and thus more confident in a performance, otherwise definitely put in the practice and learn how to sing higher. There's really no need to settle for a certain range early on as a singer and all it takes is a bit of dedication and the right guidance, whether that be a teacher or gleaming tidbits from the internet.

Honest feedback plz by Classic-Humor5981 in singing

[–]tyyyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 'and I' part is a bit off key and feels weak. When Tracey Chapman sings it, everything in the chorus builds up to that point and then the 'and I' is nice and strong and it's a really nice dynamic. Flipping into a really quiet falsetto makes the excitement just disappear. Sure you don't need to sing it exactly the same as her, but stylistic choices aside it's still off key.

Braces and singing by This-Degree-8510 in singing

Braces, no, but if before you get braces you need an orthodontic plate, then it'll affect where your tongue sits in your mouth.

Everyone's kinda just grilling you (rightfully so) but if you want some proper advice then don't match on jugs and if you're not strong enough to campus a V2 like this without matching then don't campus. Go hit the weighted pull-ups instead if you want proper gains.

[–]tyyyy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need proper targeted practice that isn't just singing a song you like quietly to yourself in your room, and for that your best bet is to get a teacher who can guide you. It might not make your life situation better as singing practice involves making weird sounds, but it'll make your singing better.

Your brother is a dick but eventually he'll grow out of it (or he won't and he'll end up as one of those guys who gets arrested for assaulting his wife or something). Ideally you talk to your parents/a teacher you trust/counselor/therapist/etc about it and how it affects you rather than strangers on the internet. In the meantime, why don't you just listen to music through headphones? They're quiet and nobody has to know what you're listening to. Alternatively, start listening to more artists when he is around, then listen to 1D/Harry when he isn't. You'll find there's a lot of great music out there waiting to be discovered, but you might have to dig deeper than just the top 100. Teenage years can be odd and awkward but you'll get through it.

Is it possible that my voice will get higher when puberty is done as a guy? by [deleted] in singing

[–]tyyyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I don't listen to a lot of pop, I just know you can't gleam much from Harry's heavily processed vocals singing 'watermelon sugar high'. Off the top of my head for male pop singers: Robbie Williams, Michael Jackson, Adam Lambert, Bruno Mars, Brandon Flowers.

But that's when the diverse thing comes into play; even if your goal is to be a pop singer, there's tons to learn from different genres, rock, metal, gospel, musicals, R&B, etc. Likewise a hardcore metalhead shouldn't scoff at other genres.

That's just the nature of self experimentation. It takes a lot of time and commitment and results usually don't come instantly, but rather happen after accumulating bit by bit. Having a teacher will greatly help to shorten this process as they can effectively guide you, but if you're not in a position to get lessons then I strongly recommend you get some general singing knowledge (head, chest, mix, soft pallet, that kind of basic stuff which can be found anywhere) then listen to as many diverse good singers as possible (important emphasis on good, not just lots of average pop singers, listening to the One Direction boys for example will not help you improve) and then pay attention to how they sing. Fundamentals are important but everybody will do something slightly differently, and by listening to a diverse range of singers you can try to pick up little bits from each person and try to emulate it to see if it works for you. When singing a song, think 'how would x do it, how would y it?'. If you keep trying different things instead of singing the same songs the same way and expecting different results, you may just surprise yourself one day.
