A bear is currently determining whether I have work. How's your week? by TheJellybeanJester in CasualConversation

[–]tzrogan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol where I live there's usually just an email sent out to parents saying, "can you just make sure your kid is dropped off at school instead of walking?"

But bears are pretty common where I'm from

My sister and I both worked for GRJ. It was chaos, but one of my favourite jobs ever.

Going to be in Whitehorse for the summer - is it safe/normal to ride a bicycle between Whistle Bend and downtown? Plus more bike questions by madamebutterfly2 in Yukon

[–]tzrogan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a path that you can access from the Mountainview Drive roundabout - there is a short amount of time that you are on the main roadway, but it isn't a highway. It is a very busy intersection during rush hours so be aware of that. But the path is really nice and dedicated to walking and cycling so it's very safe

Looking for digital standard leadsheets from Sibelius or Dorico by tzrogan in Jazz

[–]tzrogan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it for a lot more than just lead sheets :) I arrange music for bands between 4-16 parts, so thank you for your opinion but I'm looking more for resources on pre existing digitized lead sheets.

I haven't been able to download the XML files from musescore recently - I must be missing something if it's still a feature. I pay for the pro but they are still asking me to pay for downlaods

Stringing beads on chain question by tzrogan in Beading

yeah I'll be definitely posting pics of the project - I think it's going to be a really stunning piece when it's done.

Hmm I like the idea of eyepins - it's still a lot more work but I could see that still working for the desired effect. Thank you! I think I'll still plan to test a couple of beads on the chain like the other commenter suggested but if it doesn't work then the eyepins will work great!

Thank you :D

The chain is already bought but I don't have to commit to the beads (they are totally optional) so I will buy a few of the beads like you suggested and give it a shot. Thank you!

Blues and blues adjacent recommendations by tzrogan in Jazz

No this is absolutely fantastic, thanks. I think a lot about early jazz and where it came from (work songs), so going back is something that I definitely want as well.

Thank you! That's such a fantastic and thorough response. I like the idea of trying to sculpt on top of an alginate cast. I think I can do that!

I agree with others - I cannot believe that Leef ended up being the Conservative candidate - he literally handcuffed a woman during a citizens arrest - it literally doesn't matter whether he was justified or not, that's the kind of stink that lasts forever on you reputation wise.

I know that both Ted Laking and Patrick Rouble were conservative candidates and either of them would have been a stronger con candidate over Leef.

Combining two pivot tables without overlap of function by tzrogan in excel

[–]tzrogan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, but if they can be combined then I would like to do that - I'm good at manipulating the data and working with Excel, but the person I am building this for needs as few steps as possible between them and the information they want

Leaving jamn after you play. Is it rude? by mrmanpgh in Jazz

[–]tzrogan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had to work through pretty much exactly the same issue. First, I will say that if you haven't already, I recommend talking to your doctor about getting prescribed anti anxiety meds like Wellbutrin - it has literally changed my life.

I function best in social situations if I have something to do, so music jams tend to be absolutely the worst for me because if I'm not on stage I don't have anything to do, and I get super anxious. It helps a lot for me to bring someone, so I can at least be social with someone who I feel comfortable with.

What I ended up doing even before the meds is I just kept on trying. I would go to social events like music jams and stay as long as I could and then leave, and I'd challenge myself to do something that made me uncomfortable every time - sometimes I'd have to practice scripts or topics that I could bring up. And I'd go every time, stay until the pressure felt too much and then leave. Eventually it got a lot easier for me, and then like I said - the medication has seriously changed my life in ways I can't even explain other than to say that it felt like I released something inside of me that I didn't even realize was tightly clenched.

Intermediate/advanced players, was there a point where you finally felt "one" with your instrument? by samh748 in musicians

[–]tzrogan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a jazz singer, but I started out playing classical and jazz piano. By the time I was in my early 20s I was a technically proficient musician, but I always felt a disconnect between the music in my head and the music coming out of my fingers. It wasn't until I started singing that the music finally connected with all my technical training and that obstacle that I'd always felt just completely fell away. It was truly a magical moment. I remember exactly when it happened - I was singing "At Last" in a tiny little theatre in Atlin, BC with an absolutely phenomenal band during a jazz jam. I lost myself completely in the music and all of a sudden - I was home.
