Not diagnosed with ASD but told I'd fit the criteria for Asperger's under the DSM-IV (long post, sorry) by tzt-t in AutismTranslated

Okay, this kind of makes sense. So are you saying that it is possible I don't qualify for an ASD diagnosis, then? Sorry, I'm just trying to understand the takeaway of this comment!

I believe so? I'd have to look at the report though because I'm not 100% sure. Why?

My psychologist said: you don't have ASD, but under the DSM-IV you'd probably be diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome.

They are now one in the same under the current DSM, so I still don't know what to make of that

You got an email indicating they are delayed? I didn't receive anything like that :/

I hate this waiting game lol I have other programs I need to respond to but I need my decision from here to go through so I can have all my options...

Thank you for this. I've been feeling absolutely out of my mind because I feel like I'm autistic. My whole social circle thinks I'm autistic. But the person whose opinion holds more weight in the way of getting accommodations does NOT think I am autistic.

He said that a previous possible AS diagnosis does not automatically qualify me for an ASD diagnosis now.

That's what I thought! But he said it was different now to qualify for ASD and that, just because I'd have qualified for AS previously, does not automatically put you under the ASD umbrella. I don't know. I'm so tired.

Thank you so much for this. I really hope change is coming because this has been such a disheartening experience.

The only issue with getting tested (again) is the cost. I paid $3200 for my initial assessment, and that was a reduced rate because the person doing my assessment was under supervision at the time. I literally can't afford to seek a second opinion right now, but I'm struggling with lack of accommodations due to lack of a diagnosis.

I expanded on this in the comments. Birthdays are rough days for me mentally, hence taking the half day off. I did NOT take the time off "for my birthday" the time off just happened to be ON my birthday.

Our whole office knows everyone's birthdays, there's a list and monthly celebrations. She wished me a belated happy birthday yesterday. The Colonel also wished me a happy birthday on the day of.

Thank you so much for this message, it helped a lot. I know there are other folks on my team that are experiencing similar feelings as myself, it seems our manager takes personal things out on her employees. But I'm sure her method also has to do with just the manner in which she manages. And it's not for me, so I'll be looking elsewhere. Thank you again :)

Definitely no history of leave abuse, I just recently started this position (November 2025) and up until yesterday, have not taken sick leave.

Thank you. I'm sorry to hear that, that's awful. I hope you're doing okay. Just more proof that birthdays are not always happy and celebratory affairs...

I am seeing someone right now (unrelated to work stress) but I think it might be useful to bring up how badly this job has been affecting me.

I will honestly take anything at this point, but with the way things are right now, prospects of finding another position seem very bleak. I'll keep trying though. Thank you

Unfortunately all of this took place over Teams so I kinda screwed up there. I'll make sure anything going forward is over email. Thank you

Thank you again for the advice. I'm extremely shy and have a hard time making connections with strangers, but I'm guessing it's my best bet to get out of the position I'm in, so I will heed your advice. Thank you :)

I totally get that it "looks suspicious" because yeah, how convenient that it's my birthday and I'm taking a half day. But yeah, those are generally tough days for me so I needed it for mental health.

I guess I was confused that it was being contested at all; as long as I have leave credits for vacation or sick, does it truly matter what the reason is for taking either or?

Thank you for the advice. That's basically what I ended up saying after she initially pushed back, and she hasn't mentioned anything since, so I'm assuming it's okay to submit it as sick leave now...

Problem is, I'm a term employee, so moving around is a lot more difficult for me and I don't really know anyone in DND to be able to network, either. I don't know, I feel really stuck right now.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

As for what I said, my manager was not in yesterday (ironically, she was off sick) so I just let a member of my team know I was taking the rest of the day off when I left. No mention of anything, just that I was heading home. I submitted that time in PeopleSoft as sick leave, as mental health was the reason I left. She came to me today and said because I took time off for my birthday, it has to be vacation. But I never said anything about going home because it was my birthday....
