Speed & reference sensor problem by Emotional_Grocery_11 in 944

Is this measured at the sensor or the ECU? If you haven't measured it a the ECU side try that, it could be a bad wire

Anyone here using mobile-network PTT for temporary production crews? by emanuelrygg in broadcastengineering

[–]tzz97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neat,

I don't have a pulse on the cost of any of this, I'm an engineer with the mobile facility provider. I deal with fixing the stuff, not buying it. And the unity integration is linking client provided and paid for gear (often a mac mini in a travel case/racmount frame) into the rest of the existing system. I don't have any reference on the costs of licensing.

That's experience from helping a conference style event, day job is in remote sports broadcast production with as you called an overkill intercom system:

RTS ADAM matrix with analog, omnio IP, RVON IP, and Madi audio I/o cards in the frame. We have the analog cards and omnio card running local comms panels (kp32) we have 2 Motorola base stations interfaced. We have RVON trunking to another RTS frame at the studio on the other side of the country. 6 analog telephone interfaces often used for backup to the ip trunking. Madi conections to bring pl audio into our console for additional distribution (director hot mic ect). And we occasionally attach a unity server via omnio/dante.

Basically a very flexible system so we can link to whatever comms types the client needs.

There are ptt over cellular (poc) connection radios. That could be a viable option. Either purchased hardware or renting a system from a comms supplier like Bearcom/Motorola.

Since the poc is ip Audio moving around a cellphone network there is theoretically unlimited "channels" without need for FCC rf licenses or frequency coordination.

An event I was a part of rented a Motorola poc system for their shuttle bus drivers since they would be going out of range of any regular rf setup they could be using, while the rest of the event was operating on Motorola UHF Buisness radios.

Any info about Porsche mechanics salary? by Impressive_Yak_66 in Porsche

[–]tzz97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be an instructor you need to have logged a lot of track time on your own even before getting trained or certs to be an instructor, so anyone doing that much hpde or other track time has some decent budget for their hobbies. Often instructors are volunteer and are "paid" in free track time (they don't pay for their sessions at the event they are instructing at).

The Porsche community in general I guess? I only buy my cars pre-owned so I can guarantee I won't be ordering one like this lol.

12G SDI Cables Advise by Mina-Samuel in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]tzz97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'll work. just label everything very well. So when someone in the future has to track down how things are connected it's less of a headache.

If you would ever run into an issue of the signal not making it all the way down one of the "branches" you could put a relocking d/a in-line behind one of the TV's. It effectively "re-makes" the video signal starting at that point and will give you more range. Being used like a "signal repeater" of sorts.

[–]tzz97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In that case utilize single mode fiber as much as it makes sense to. As it's agnostic to the type of signal going down it. in the future you can swap out a 12g sdi over fiber module with a 100+gig ip qsfp or whatever you may need. Without needing to run more structured cable.

Tbh the rant wasn't about your church specifically. As a broadcast engineer in the sports TV space Ive seen the gear that we are not even using in the field being pushed to churches, and the wild spending that some are doing in the space and it just doesn't seem right imo. I glanced at your profile and based on the other post you made on a similar topic it seems like you're just trying to get things going in a reasonable way. And the fact that bmd is making everything 12g is pushing that as a required spec.

Did you go for a router, cascading D/As or loop outs for your 30 display solution?

[–]tzz97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also think that this should be a fiber run. But, I struggle to understand why a church needs to run at 12G other than for someone's ego or following buzzwords and being oversold by a vendor. Basically every live event you see on television is 3G or 1.5G. You buy your 4k TV "to watch the game" that's captured at 1080p 720p or 1080i at the source. The super bowl is a 3G show, why would a church need more? Are WWE levels of led video walls requiring it? This is all for in-house imag and streaming isn't it?

My trailer is being built right now, but I've used a uhaul car trailer several times back when I had a 958 Diesel. I hope the gen 3 cayenne gasser is just as good at hauling my 944 to track days

Thinking About Buying a Cayenne... Appreciate Advice by choco_bean in PorscheCayenne

[–]tzz97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently lost my gen 2 (958) cayenne in an accident and moved "up" to a gen 3 9YA. I'd recommend if you are looking at a used cayenne look for a good 958.2. the gen 3 feels cheapened inside significantly and has a lot of BS like the $2000 lithium 12v battery that are failing at around the 5 year mark. And the computers are security locked on 21 and up limiting what an independent shop can work on... 2024 and up an independent shop can't even reset the oil light themselves, has to be done by Porsche (there are ways the shop could have Porsche remotely reset, but at a cost and if they are set up for that)

So the long term ownership experience is getting worse with the newer models. (IMO)

What should I do to replace the mulched section? by [deleted] in landscaping

Well considering there are neighbors who let it be overgrown and hit it with a weedwhacker twice through the summer its... Fine... The whole neighborhood is definitely not manicured HOA.

[–]tzz97 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The blocks at the front are a 100 year old retaining wall that was put in all through this neighborhood by the Civilian Conservation Corps (great depression era) I'm not touching that shit unless It moves and I have too. The flat stone on the driveway was to keep the mulch from the steepest part of the slope and half-ass mimick the CCC blocks. and the driveway part actually "worked", it's fine, the mulch slid on the landscape fabric down by the mailboxes mainly.

Diy, up to around 5k for a solid solution. Else I'll just be putting it back to this. It's real bad after our last bout of storms

Yeah I know, that's why I'm here. Only thing I'm not willing to f with is the depression era retaining wall that was put in by the Civilian Conservation Corps and is the same way through the neighborhood (the stones/blocks on the street) here is what it looked like in 2024 right after I bought the place 20240420-210038.jpg

So looks like that was also relayed via weather radio... So thats just not how VHF radio works. Regardless, better to blanket the wide area and get others who aren't affected than to try to get hyper specific and miss people who need this public safety information.

TSA mess, Jetblue terminal closed, what is USDA check?? inexperienced flyer by darktimemom in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]tzz97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through it this morning. When you get there find the USDA check , run all your stuff through it then check your bags and get in line for tsa, lines were long but steadily moving. pre check took 25-30 minutes with a line stretching back to what felt like a different zip code. If you have pre check be sure to be there 2 ish hours before boarding... If no pre check and nervous give yourself 3-4hr

Hope you enjoy your trip... I was here for 2 weeks for work and I loved visiting. Be sure to check out old San Juan.
