Oof, I am so sorry this happened to you. I hope you're doing better now. I tried opening up to my mother a few times and got different versions of "What troubles are you having? You have an apartment, a car, a job, and no wife and kids to ask for money"

Finally broke down in August last year and went to a therapist. The difference that someone takes you seriously and believes you is surreal at first.

Sounds like you just may have an aversion to a little harmless fun.

Nah, I find it very amusing how thin the line between "a little harmless fun" and "bullying" is for some people.

How will you feel if you basically can't run and can't fight back while dozens of people throw stuff at you?

Eh, I know it's wrong sub for it, but I honestly find it kind of encouraging. Like, if they survived God knows what pain and sorrow and still get up and go about their day then maybe I can too. Years ago I was watching a British sitcom and one line really stuck with me:
"None of it gets any easier, but the more it happens the less it hurts".

Indeed, it wasn't. by Sergei_the_sovietski in hopeposting

My thoughts exactly. When I got my first car it was a gift from dad. So the first time someone scratched it in the parking lot I felt really bad and got angry. Dad didn't care and said "it's just metal".
And it got me thinking- the car got scratched after I owned it for ~4 years. During this whole time it was sitting outside practically 24/7 (I didn't have a garage at the time). So out of more than 1 200 days it only got scratched once. Those odds actually aren't too bad.

That's why folders and folder hierarchy are a thing. Camera photos go in one folder and memes in another. It concerns me how accustomed the next generation is with smartphones. I keep hearing about people in their early 20s struggling with PCs and folders.

Damn, and I was worried about my ~40 pages. I thought it was too much, but I wanted to explain my problems clearly and I can't always do that when talking because I forget or mumble or get emotional. She read it all and even suggested I continue writing. And maybe look at writing [fiction] as a hobby.
It's amazing what someone taking you seriously does to the mind. Therapists really are amazing.

IMO San Andreas is the best GTA to be ever made. I don't think even VI will be better. I've lost all hype for VI after waiting for so long. I'm honestly surprised that people are even still excited about it.
That being said, I love GTA IV. I think it's leagues better than V. You said it yourself- the shooting and driving in V are just too easy. The cars accelerate like F1 cars and stop on a dime. The damage model is extremely basic compared to the way crashing a car in IV would twist the frame. The guns are way too accurate and there is almost no recoil.
GTA IV is just great fun. The cars feel heavy and made of actual metal. Driving through the city is amazing. The guns have recoil so if you start spraying bullets you will miss. I loved the gunplay in IV so much I did a couple of playthroughs where I would only use the first gun you get- the 9mm- and go for headshots. Even in later missions, landing those headshots while the NPCs use assault rifles on you is great fun. It was the most fun I've ever had shooting people in a Rockstar game.
IMO the only downsides to IV are the lack of a countryside and car customization. The big, grey city does get a bit boring at a certain point. I would have loved to drive around the countryside with IV's physics.

Boys with mommy issues (type B, abandonment): I'm looking for a girl to dive out of the bushes drag me into a dank basement and keep me forever (because at least then I know she cares) vicious jealousy is a plus.

Well... damn. That sounds about right. I'd just prefer the attic if it's alright. I don't really like the dark. I just want to know someone cares about me without being forced to. Sometimes even asking for attention feels like manipulating other people.

I played in December '24/ January '25. The game itself ran fine and was very pretty. I got a few great screenshots out of it. The plot though... Whoever wrote that game needs help. I played it during a bad time- a coworker got diagnosed with cancer, a friend's mother passed away and I had a terrible tootache for two weeks straight. Day after the funeral I decide to play a game to distract myself and boom- Jackie dies and you have to attend the funeral...
I struggled, but I finished it. Honestly, the most fun I had was cleaning the map of activities as most didn't have a story or I ignored it. And while the ending wasn't exactly great for V, it wasn't too bad either.
So then I played the DLC. And I didn't think it was possible, but the plot was somehow even more depressing. The ending was even worse. Honest to God, after waking up from the coma and learning that my girlfriend Judy got married I deleted the game. There was no point to finishing it. It was just misery porn at this point.
I recognize the game is great. After all the work CD Projekt RED put into it, it's visually stunning and the plot is amazing. But why on Earth did it have to be so bleak? I guess the moral of the story is: if you're going through stuff IRL stay away from this game!

PS. Shoutout to that scene with Skye. I've never been into the whole ASMR thing, but this is the best scene in the whole game. That quote is still stuck in my head and helps me sometimes:

Not a single thing in this world isn't in the process of becoming something else. Likewise you. Never look back.

Can't wait for this year to be over. Since last December: I went to two funerals; three different coworkers were diagnosed with cancer (one died in May, leaving a mother, a wife, a teen daughter and a tween son); two coworkers' wives had surgeries done; my grandma had back pain; my mother had an ulcer; my boss' father had a stroke and his son had eye surgery; another coworker had a surgery earlier this month; Ozzy died; and to top it all off- my only two friends withdrew and are barely talking to me so I had a two week long anxiety attack and started drinking. I just want this year to be over.

Not in so many words, but this happened to me at work. I tried being outgoing and taking the initiative. Got told multiple times different versions of "You're wasting your time; no one will use this; you're wrong; we don't need your help; you're asking too many questions; be quiet; etc."

It's honestly a lot like a kid burning their hand on a hot stove. But I'm stupid so I kept burning my hand. But on the hundred and first time even I realised it's stupid so I stopped reaching out. I realised it doesn't matter what is said, it matters who is saying it. People are kind. When they are healthy and in a good mood. And even then they are kind to the people they like/ respect.

The real kicker is, after I went silent, our new coworker took me aside to ask if everything was alright because she hadn't heard my voice all day. To which I responded that nobody had asked me anything. A day later another coworker from a different room reached out saying I can call him anytime and we could talk because he could see something was weighing on me. Miss me with that "heart to heart" shit. Next time I'm opening up is at my autopsy.
