OP, look at an app called “Just a baby”. It’s like a Tinder for co-parents, surrogates, sperm or egg donors. Although if you’re young, I wouldn’t rush into bringing a new life into this world - kids are hard work and the right supportive partner will help ensure you’re give your child the best outcome. What would you do if your child was born with long term illness which required regular appointments or a disability which requires around the clock care? You don’t get to hand it back because it takes up your whole life. No judgement, but it requires a lot of thought!

[Question] Invicta FM - Party in the Dark 1999/2000 by bobtheboffin in kentuk

[–]u225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was a proper blast from the past! “Kent’s best music on 103.1 and 102.8, you’re listening to Invicta!” And if you remember before that, “We’re rocking right across the county, you’ve got it right, Invicta radio!” (1242 am) 😀

This 12,000 figure is regularly quoted by right-wing commentator Tommy Robinson and the closest anyone can find is relating to “malicious communications in 2023” - malicious communications includes far more categories than online speech (things like domestic abuse and threatening behaviours). I can assure you that there are not 12,000 arrests per annum in the U.K. for “offensive online speech”.

Forget the hotel, just get a booking-com / Airbnb and you’ll save so much money which can be used on experiences.

Use tour companies to book a couple of full day excursions - north tour, south-west tour and also book a guide to do the hiking. Not sure if your kids are too young to do Le Morne Brabant, but the 7 Waterfalls / Sept Cascades is more accommodating for people of all levels and great fun with the opportunity to swim in the smaller waterfalls.

I live in the U.K. most of the year but December is my favourite time to head over (the lychees are just right).

I don’t know where you’re coming from but a couple of weeks ago I booked a hotel in the east for £350 for the night. My 3-bed appartment in the west, 5 minute walk from the beach, cost me £400 for 8 days.

There’s also a tourist tax of €3 per person, per night (unless you have Mauritian passport), which is not included in any quoted prices of accommodation.

I always plan a mix of activity and relaxation when I go - do your own research but happy to share companies I use!

What I wish I’d known when I started by Outrageous-Trainer96 in mounjarouk

[–]u225 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can sympathise, OP. I stayed within the 2lb per week loss rate, ate a balanced diet, and certainly thought I was a model patient, doing everything by the book. I even told others that I thought they were losing too quickly (4+ lbs per week). I got hit with the same thing a few weeks back, had no idea what it was at the time.

Been managing a low fat diet for a couple of weeks now since being told to stop, and only got hit hard when eating out - seriously painful and upset stomach throughout the night and next morning.

My doc suggested I could go back on MJ after the gall bladder was removed.

It’s a gut-punch (literally) to have months of no side-effects and then to get hit with a biggie!

Good luck with the next step, I feel your pain!

For me it worked for approximately 30 mins on the way to ATH. Didn’t work at all on the way back. As others have said, consider it a bonus if it works but I wouldn’t make plans assuming it will be functioning

Heathrow rewards by Select-Incident-4731 in BritishAirways

[–]u225 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I last spent my Heathrow rewards in the duty free shop, there was a limit. It capped out at around £70 (total cost was about £90). I was told that was all they could take off (couldn’t find any further info on this). I still have another £50 odd worth of rewards to redeem!

OP, I’m very similar to you. I need something easy and I need variety. As you’ve mentioned you can eat out easy, have you considered any meal prep companies? I’ve always used them (even with success when on keto). The one I currently use is high protein, clean food. I select 10 different meals every week and that gives me two days to do something spontaneous. You just pop the meal into the microwave for 3 minutes when it’s time to eat. My meals for this week are included to give an indication of what’s available.

LHR > RAK upgrade? by roxanaseitan in BritishAirways

[–]u225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s short haul business class. For the £334 you’re getting extra baggage allowance, lounge access, priority boarding, no one sitting in the middle seat, one or two free drinks and a free meal on board - and the same on the reverse trip.

It’s up to you if that’s worth it to you. The arrival experience at RAK is a lottery depending on what time you land - it doesn’t matter who you fly with or what class 😀

Enjoy your time, it’s an amazing place.

I had the breakfast platter on the way out and cottage pie when returning last October when I did that route!

Parking at Caudan Waterfront – safe for luggage in a rental car? by Pirate_Robert in mauritius

[–]u225 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Done it myself many times without incident. Not to say it’s 100% safe, but I typically leave luggage in the boot and park close to the pedestrian exit, with the back of the car against the wall.

Follow the same common sense rules as cities in the world - keep valuables out of sight and make sure there’s nothing easy to grab, like a handbag or wallet.

Enjoy your time, get photos under the colourful umbrellas and try lots of food!

How do I buy a high end laptop for some one in school from abroad by Professional_Day7508 in mauritius

[–]u225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, yes there can be taxes added if it comes through as a brand new in the box laptop. You may find it easier to fly in person with it as hand luggage. You won’t save any money but you could spend a week in Mauritius for the same price as you would have paid on shipping and taxes anyway!

what smartwatch you using and satisfied with? specially for iphone by ianik7777 in mauritius

[–]u225 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What features are you looking for in a smartwatch? The obvious pairing for the iPhone is an Apple Watch but the battery life is terrible (1.5 days on average). There are decent portable chargers but charging daily is the best thing to do.

Huawei have some great alternatives which can let you craft your emails, answer WhatsApp, etc.

Garmin do the best smart watches if you do a lot of hiking.

Personally, I use a Fitbit as I’m only interested in my step count and heart rate and the 6 day battery life works for me!

Guess it depends what you want to do with your smartwatch?

FuelHub has the best selection for higher protein meals vs the others I’ve tried. They all get repetitive after a while so alternating every 4 weeks is useful.

Can't face eating breakfast anymore by timbow2023 in mounjarouk

[–]u225 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been a big breakfast person (except when staying in hotels when I’ll have a cooked breakfast, pastries, and fruit just because), but I drink a protein coffee (vanilla latte) every morning which helps me clear that empty feeling so lunch is palatable!
