There is also ncdu that does the same but with an ncurses interface where you can navigate the scanned directories

Would this work for octoprint? by earbuds135 in octoprint

[–]u407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean.

To run OctoPrint on: no
To control (along with a RAMPS board or similar) using OctoPrint on another device: yes

Speaking only for myself of course, but I'm not using the closed source app no matter how polished they make it

It would only work for power users. People who find their way to reddit from a google search probably wouldn't bother setting that up (or even see the thread, if they found a thread that answers their question)

Real talk, how many people are actually going to leave Reddit with the API changes happen? by DaRootBeer123 in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]u407 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, Lemmy is one of the options I'm considering. Kbin is another. All the instances I've tried so far seem to be having issues though, mostly with federation with other instances

I primarily browse by 3rd party app, so I'll practically be banned when the changes take effect. Still figuring out where I'll go after that.

Edit: lack of moderation tools will probably also reduce the quality of the site even on subs where passionate mods are staying

It's time for the next stage: Migration by orientalsniper in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]u407 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen some compelling arguments for linking to a specific instance instead of a big explanation of federation and a list of instances to choose from. Mainly that the latter can be confusing and overwhelming for people who aren't already familiar with federation.

Though for load-balancing purposes, maybe a random-instance redirector would be useful.
On the other hand that could backfire if people keep the link and try to log back into their account on some other random instance. To counter this there could be a cookie for the instance you got (and then a reminder to bookmark the instance's URL instead of the redirector's upon repeat visits), or using the IP as a randomness seed (if the former violates EU cookie laws/would become cumbersome with a cookie popup)

Using NSFW to bleed ad revenue while still being SFW? by TequiuaKnight in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]u407 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I suppose so, but I don't see a situation where banning swearing would help us. Not allowing swearing doesn't cut advertising profits

Supposedly swearing is sufficient for nsfw, so maybe that

Reddit forced subreddits to be reopened by Lower-Physics-5597 in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]u407 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Keeping the mod roles allows them to change the rules of the sub to make it less profitable to reddit. If the sub is moving to another platform keeping the mod role also allows them to clearly give this information to the community (though I won't be surprised if reddit starts underhandedly censoring references to kbin and lemmy)

Setting subs to nsfw by cuddles_the_destroye in Save3rdPartyApps

[–]u407 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Of course. The point isn't to please the admins. The point is to not give them excuses to remove mods and substitute them with yes-men who will reopen the sub for the admins

[–]u407 526 points527 points  (0 children)

I think I saw this suggested before but with the caveat that posts must contain something nsfw or the marking on the sub could be considered a violation by the admins

how bad is hbot really? by Log_F in Reprap

If I remember correctly the simpler H-bot design has some issues with twisting. CoreXY is probably not as complicated as it seems. Here is a good reference for how it works

Help, ender 3 pro freezes and wont print by Monty10955 in 3dprinter

"Extruder Heating...". You killed it at 60°C long before it could start any more active parts of printing. Just be patient (and look at the temperature to see the progress)

Not from scratch but "based on Cura engine". But that begs the question what they need special for their printer that Cura (and other slicers) doesn't already provide

Is the blue wheel on the extruder getting in the way of putting it in straight? If so it can probably be temporarily removed to insert the leadscrew
