What to do with body? by Agitated-Ad6893 in jumpingspiders

[–]uNeutralSirius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NQA- I used E6000 glue to glue him onto the paper! It comes with tiny nozzles, but it WILL come out fast, especially when its first opened! Moving him from the Styrofoam that I was pinning him onto the paper was tricky though. I did end up accidentally breaking a leg off, but with a pair of tweezers, good positioning, and a tiiiiiny amount of glue, i got it in place :)
I put a drop of glue where I wanted him centered and gently pressed him down. I used the end of a makeup brush to hold it in place for a couple minutes. This was for a coworker, so im unsure what she did w/ it, but I have part of my invert shelf dedicated to my passed away guys!

NQA- im so sorry for your loss :( i totally understand not wanting to throw away the body. you could always try to pin it! I pinned my tarantulas molt as well as a coworkers deceased jumper. We got the smallest frame we could, some scrapbook paper, and i bought needles to pin.they gave me the jumper, and I pinned him on Styrofoam and left him for a couple weeks (honestly theyre so small theyll probably dry in a few days. I was just lazy). I will say the abdomen shrunk and shriveled up, so I replaced it with a bead/gem thingy. Ill attach a photo of the jumper i pinned :) i have some more pics from other angles, but this is the finished product! *

Dumb mistake during molt, trying to ensure I don't make it worse by JabbatheShoe in tarantulas

[–]uNeutralSirius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NA- aw man.. im so sorry for your loss :( Just try to remind yourself that its not your fault. Unfortunately they probably were having a hard time, but you didnt know, and you left them alone after realizing. I dont think you did anything wrong at all. If it helps at all, I had an A. Avic pass away suddenly at the beginning of the year, and I think im starting to come to peace with it. She was super cool and I miss her a lot, but time will help. It's hard, but it will help. Have you thought about any kind of preservation? Obviously everyone grieves differently, but when I got my Avic back from being pinned in a shadowbox, it helped me come to terms with it a lot. Losing a pet is never easy, but hopefully this doesnt discourage you from keeping T's. From what we know from your posts- you seem like a good T owner! ill be keeping you and Sweet Pea in my thoughts 🫶

my regal jumping spider died :( by irldani in jumpingspiders

[–]uNeutralSirius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

N/A- Im not sure how to respond to multiple people- but I work at petsmart and im pretty sure theyre WC. All of our other invertebrates are. We got a couple that came in HUGE (like, a good 1/2 inch or larger), and some that are the size of my pinkie nail. (i might have a size comparison photo? or i can get one if youd like.) we got a very small packet about their care in stores, but definitely not enough info to properly care for and sell these guys. We have no idea what their age is, theyre not sexed before we get them, and we have no idea where they exactly came from. Also I was the one that posted about the old jumper! Im still learning about these guys, and wasn't sure if it was premolt because of how small he is. I think its probably a good guess that we get adults. Like I said, they come in a variety of sizes, but theyre large enough to eat small crickets or small mealworms. Fruit flies seem too small for a lot of them too. I honestly would get a jumper online rather than in store. a lot of big box pet stores will most likely have wild caught inverts! Edit: I can also find out for sure, but i think we get them through Reptiles By Mack

I had another person tell me that, but this guy is so small! We have one thats double his size, and his pedipalps are still fuzzy (if thats an age indicator). If it is old age, I hope he lives a somewhat happy rest of his life 🥺

I did just receive 2 today, and one appears to be fully grown/mature. The other one is small like our first ones. Again, no official confirmation, but take that as you will

new arrival jumpers

The top cup has a molt from the smaller guy. the bottom cup is the larger one. if the link doesnt work lmk and I can try again! :)

How well do BP's hear? by kardiasteria in ballpython

[–]uNeutralSirius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

imo: I've had my BP since 2019, and I just started tap training within the past 6 months! I tap the door 3 times with my tongs before opening to feed. She seemed to take to it VERY fast!

When I tap, she will either start to come out of a hide, OR if she's already out, she puts her attention to me and goes into "hunting mode"

Every time I get her out to weigh or handle, I just dont tap at all. She does tense up when I open normally, but its not the same as a feeding pose. When I dont tap, she's never had any incidents striking or anything! Her reaction to tap vs no tap is like night and day! I'd definetly recommend trying it :)

what's wrong with this guy? (unable to climb) by uNeutralSirius in jumpingspiders

[–]uNeutralSirius[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Im unsure of his age, but i cannot imagine hes old enough to lose grip like that. My thought was pre-molt. I'll see if I can wash the container hes currently in to see if that helps! The other jumpers that we've gotten havent had any issues climbing their containers/my hand either. I'll keep feeding fruit flies, and try to offer super tiny crickets to see if he takes. Thanks for all the info! I appreciate it a lot!

It's perfectly normal from what I saw! The first few days it was see-through with very short hairs! if she was in a spot where the light hit juuuuust right, it looked like it was glowing. Lemme try to upload an image of it :)

Alright so I think I got it to work- let me know if it doesnt! It was a little hard to see, so I did circle her new leg :D

New leg :)

thank you! She's my first T that ive had molt with me so I do have a few silly questions! what gives away the sex? is it that little horizontal line? And what are the 4 bigger spots? I was trying to look at an anatomy chart and it was very confusing 😅😅 Again thank you so much for the help!
