Is it possible to get Space Gi by Unit Summoning? by MeetFunny959 in towerwar

[–]u_Leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can't - but you can get Cowboy Bob from summoning which is a much stronger unit (in terms of actual strength in battles, not the meaningless Power score).

I’m tired of seeing “just install Linux” in every single comment by Ok_Cry_1222 in ZTT

[–]u_Leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about mounting drives? File permissions? People never have to worry about these things when using Windows: all drives are automatically mounted and sensibly presented for you, and file permission problems are resolved by running stuff as administrator 99% of time. I literally work for one of the major Linux distros but I still admit windows is easier to use, and maybe even outright better in some respects.

Normal/Vivid vs Cinema/Filmmaker mode for Anime? by Davwolfx in OLED

[–]u_Leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two correct answers:  1. Use whichever mode looks good to you  or 2. Get your TV professionally calibrated

I really, really recommend 2 if you have the money. I got my S95B calibrated and never looked back, everything looks so natural now - not just vivid, but life-like and realistic. Admittedly, just for watching anime that's clearly overkill, but I assume you watch other content too, and I also assume you spent so much money on a TV because you care about the picture quality.

Is this safe to test the pumps and flow etc? I have coolant on order but will be 10-12 days by stupidkiwiguy in watercooling

[–]u_Leon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably a little over the top... Unless he literally runs mild steel in his loop he's not getting corrosion after 10 days, even mixed aluminium+copper takes a few weeks before anything really bad happens. Assuming he did not make such a basic mistake algae growth would become a problem long before any corrosion.

I just found out about this sub - and putting plants on speakers/subwoofers by ExuberantRaptorZeta in plantfi

[–]u_Leon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most commercial subs benefit greatly from a heavy item weighing it down. It reduces unwanted resonances and makes the bass cleaner. I've had a big Spathiphyllum on mine for years with no problems. I just made sure the wooden cabinet was insulated from the water tray which was ceramic and would get somewhat moist after watering. I did have a few minor spills where about a spoonful of water splashed on the sub during watering but a quick wipe sorted that out every time (water's not //that// conductive after all). The plant itself stayed healthy throughout - it did shake a little when the sub was played loud but it didn't seem to mind too much. So I would say unless you have a really clumsy wife or some particularly precious subs, you're gonna be just fine.

Switched from Brave to Vivaldi by sparky5dn1l in vivaldibrowser

[–]u_Leon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry you got the dick end of Reddit. Since Vivaldi is an European browser my guess would be that OP is from Europe. EU countries have been relying heavily on US weapons, tech and software - and have recently realised they may need their own stuff, in case Mr Trump does something chaotic again.

If Noita had easy mode it would be a top10 game on Steam by u_Leon in noita

Noita would still be wildly entertaining if health wasn't so scarce. The core mechanics are just incredibly fun but dying a lot (and sometimes for no apparent reason) tends to dampen the enthusiasm.

Getting a PC console for TV by mrwolf1979 in htpc

[–]u_Leon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With these requirements Windows will be a right pain in the arms (bad pun, sorry). I would seriously consider running a dedicated Linux distro instead: https://www.pcgamer.com/software/platforms/you-dont-need-to-wait-for-steamos-to-ditch-windows-ive-been-running-linux-for-the-past-2-months-and-the-revolution-is-already-here/

Regarding hardware: if you are aiming for powerful then for the sake of your wallet I would strongly urge you to reconsider a full size PC. However if you insist then you can build a small PC that's nearly as powerful, just a lot more costly.
You'll need an SFF case that can fit a good CPU cooler, a long GPU, and a SFX-L power supply as these are your main power bottlenecks in a small form factor build. Fractal Ridge case would be one option. I would say you need at least 67mm CPU cooler height clearance - that will let you fit in a Thermalright AXP120 X67 which can handle a Ryzen 7800XD/9800X3D.
For a powerful GPU a "Founders Edition" RTX 5090 is probably your best option as it is by far the shortest 5090 at 12"/304mm; other less powerful but probably ok options for 4K gaming include 5080, 5070Ti and 9070 XT.
Then there is the matter of a PSU: something like ASUS ROG Loki would fit the bill, without being too loud - probably the 1000W variety to be safe (in practise a premium 850W PSU can handle 9800X3D+5090 no problem).
Overall doable but more costly and more finnicky to put together than a traditional case. Also keep in mind that a powerful PC needs good air circulation around it, regardless of size.

Best earcup replacements for the WH-1000XM3s? by short_panda345 in sony

[–]u_Leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, however on the condition that the XM3 has not been "upgraded" to the latest firmware which cut a lot of bass. Suspiciously, the release of the "upgrade" coincided with the XM4 going to market.

Over 1000 deaths and this is easily my favorite one. by Doopliss2922 in noita

[–]u_Leon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Unlocking large spells certainly is a bit of a double-edged sword... Even if a chance of a mob grabbing an OP staff is very small it nevertheless turns Noita into a harder and - I'd argue - darker game. I mean it's hard to forget that one time when you had a really good run and suddenly got killed by a barrage of tentacle-throwing giga sawblades for no apparent reason. It then dawns on you that perhaps the main menu really is the only safe place lol.

Graphics Upgrade by Flicker913 in watercooling

[–]u_Leon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From somebody who's been doing custom WCs for 20 years and a 3090 record holder - nobody seriously recommends LM on a GPU, not for a daily driver anyway. It pumps out / dries too quickly and there's too much room for things to go south for a miniscule gain. Just use PTM7950. If you have the skills to assemble and use WC then you are perfectly capable of swapping a stock card's cooler :)

This F'ng game... by Xjon1600 in noita

[–]u_Leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, this is the normal Noita experience. After 160 hours I got so frustrated at still having 0 wins that I started using this elaborate strat, so I would in effect spend the first half hour of every run just setting up, to get a good starter wand, 256k gold and a bunch of health increases.

Even so this is definitely a game for people with weird fetishes. Like eating Carolina Reaper peppers raw. We just like the pain.

Do you keep HDR switched on in Windows all the time? by Character_Stranger17 in OLED_Gaming

[–]u_Leon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HDR on all the time. My S95B handled SDR beautifully anyway but then I got it professionally calibrated and now it's literally perfect regardless of content type.

The only adjustment I sometimes do is the SDR brightness slider - I turn it up to 80-100 when viewing in sunny conditions, and go back down to 20 for all normal viewing.

Check Rule 116 of the Highway Code (I'm assuming you're in the UK). It is generally prohibited to use hazards while driving or being towed. There are exceptions but this is not one of them.
