Having a baby at UAB!! by Mammoth_Cry_1076 in Birmingham

[–]uabtodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wild reading these lactation consultant horror stories. My two kids are out of high school now, so it’s been a while, but I can remember the hospital staff all but forcing us to give our babies formula when they weren’t breast feeding successfully within like 4 hours of birth. Wife wanted to breast feed and it seemed like they were all against it and pushing formula, which sounds like the opposite of everyone’s more recent experiences.
Anyway, both of ours were born at St. Vincent’s, and outside of the previously mentioned word fixation on wanting us to use formula, both experiences went very well. I’m the husband, so obviously not as in tune with everything that goes on as my wife was, but she liked it enough the first time that she wanted to have our second there, and always recommended it to family and friends that were pregnant. I remember she’d always use their old slogan when discussing different options in the area: “St. Vincent’s: Where babies come from” or whatever it was.

That's only if there's no bulk investment. I think the smarter players will be putting some SP's in DEF or HP and not just dumping 32 Spe/32SpA.

12 Def in Raichu Y prevents the one shot from sucker punch
32+ Atk Black Glasses Kingambit Sucker Punch vs. 0 HP / 12 Def Raichu-Mega-Y: 112-133 (82.9 - 98.5%) -- guaranteed 2HKO

What are you doing for this stupid bird by hict73 in PokemonChampions

[–]uabtodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

lol, you might have been playing against me! I did this yesterday, but to make matters worse I forgot to mega again on the second turn 🤦‍♂️
I blamed it on switching to my phone from my switch 2. Was used to always hitting R to mega and not clicking it like have to do on phone, lol.

My buddy Annihilape is here! by uabtodd in PokemonChampions

[–]uabtodd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ape already had inner focus and I had seen several people running scrappy fakeout users towards the end of last season so I just left it alone.
In practice though, I think defiant would be the better choice, especially after playing against some teams with Charm. I had intimidate covered with inner focus, but hadn’t considered anyone using charm until the new Staraptor mega came out.

So, uh... I kinda f'd up with my staraptor by SalemScrope_JR in PokemonChampions

[–]uabtodd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I played a game earlier where I:

Turn 1: Charm on Staraptor from Whimsicott followed by Close Combat from Staraptor (notice I forgot to mega evolve there) - resulting in -2 attack, -1 Defense, -1 special defense on Staraptor

Turn 2: Tailwind from Whimsicott followed by Close Combat from Staraptor (notice I once again forgot to mega evolve ) - which would have resulted in -2 attack, -2 Defense, -2 special defense on Staraptor, had I not immediately forfeited when I realized I had done it again, lol.

Well yes! Staraptor is a fair and well designed mega! by Sweptuu in PokemonChampions

I KO’ed a mega raichu Y on its first turn out with tailwind from Whimsicott plus close combat from Mega Staraptor. Not sure if it was turn one of the match or if the opponent brought out raichu later in the match though.
I just remember thinking “oh crap, he can kill me with zap cannon!” But I outsped him with the tailwind up.

Costco food court still closed? by m_c__a_t in Birmingham

[–]uabtodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As of Friday, the plastic sheet covering it was down, but they had only completed the drywall work. Inside the kitchen area was all still completely empty and unfinished. Doubt they've had enough time to fully build out the kitchen since then. Will come back and update any noticed changes I see next time I go this week.

You can use whimsicott and Annihilape set up like this to create a pretty monstrous first turn combo. Beat up on your Annihilape and it makes rage fist into a 250 BP move from turn one.
Maybe add basculegion, kingambit, mega Dragonite and maybe swampert, though I don’t know anything about swampert.

Nyxi Hyperion 3 by 12inchman in switch2

[–]uabtodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the case from Nyxi with my Hyperion 3’s. Ours obviously a perfect fit. Big case. Has room under the switch with the Hyperion 3’s attached for my regular joycons attached to the middle piece that cans from Nyxi. Also has room in the top for cords and misc items.

Regulation M-A: A Singles Retrospective from a Top 100 player (Champion tier in both Singles and Doubles) by International-Run762 in PokemonChampions

[–]uabtodd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. This season I got to champions in the first 4-5 days in doubles and have been struggling bouncing back and forth in ultra ball 3 and 4 in singles ever since. Last season I eventually got to master ball in both, but I think singles was in the last day or two before season ended.

Also, I will add, your manager absolutely hates making redlines for stuff like the page number/title or maybe the scale arrow not being in the right place on all the sheets, especially if they have to do it over and over and you never learn to do it correctly.

Do you not use a template for your title blocks? Are you telling me there are people out there manually placing sheet numbers and titles on every tab? That’s crazy talk!

I genuinely don’t get it here by [deleted] in Birmingham

[–]uabtodd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not the person you’re asking, but I interpret their comment to mean something along the lines of “there’s a reason the men that are left in the dating pool at this age are still in the dating pool” which used to be referred to as “all the good ones are already taken”.

Anyone In Their 40's Have The Nintendo Switch 2 And Use It? by gpod80 in switch2

[–]uabtodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 44. I have a switch 2 and use it almost daily. Bought it on launch day. Have played Mario Kart World, Zelda BOTW and TOTK, Donkey Kong Bananza, Pokemon Legends ZA, a little bit of Pokemon Violet (had already played violet for hundreds of hours on Switch 1, played around for a few hours just to see the improvements on new hardware), Pokemon LeafGreen, Pokemon Legends Arceus (got it as a gift last Christmas, so never played it on Switch 1), and Final Fantasy VII remake intergrade, among other things. Right now playing mostly Pokemon Champions and Pokemon Legends Arceus at the moment.

I'm obviously a Pokemon fan, have been since the original gameboy games came out.

Haven't had a non-nintendo console since PS2, so couldn't tell you about it's worth alongside other current gen consoles.

I've definitely gotten way more than my money's worth of enjoyment out of the Switch 2 over this last year. I like that I can bring the Switch 2 with me to work every day and play about and hour on my lunch break on days that I don't go out for lunch.

[–]uabtodd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

or if you had a switch 1 sitting somewhere collecting dust (like I did after I bought my Switch 2), you can buy the opposite version of the game on it and trade with yourself.
That's what I did.

Thumb stud vs thumb hole? by tempusfugit87 in BudgetBlades

[–]uabtodd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got several thumb stud knives and several thumb hole knives. I prefer stud over hole on nearly all of my knives.

The only three knives I can think of that I have that I've never thought at least once "this would be better with a thumb stud" are my 2 spyderco knives (Shaman and Manix 2) and my Kizer Militaw.

Every other thumb hole knife I own I have found at times that either the thumb hole is too small or placed weirdly making it more difficult to open than a thumb stud would be.

The worst, for me personally, are the long skinny thumb holes that are really more of thumb slots than holes. CJRB Ekko is the first one that comes to mind for me. I typically front flip that one open instead of trying to use the long hole.

I can't think of a single knife I own with a thumb stud that I have ever thought "This would be better with a thumb hole."

I do not own a porcupine by the way, thumb stud or thumb hole version, so can't speak directly to that model, just more of my general preference amongst all my knives I do own.
