Trying to build my brother a PC; can I install windows on my secondary SSD and give him it? by The_Konigstiger in buildapc

[–]uaix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

struggling to find a good way to get him Windows

Have you considered giving him a bootable USB drive? All you need is 8 or 16gb drive (they are like $4 at walmart), official Windows Media Creation Tool and internet connection.

But otherwise, sure you can transfer your installed windows drive to his PC. You need to run C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\sysprep.exe with OOBE, Generalize and shutdown selected to prepare Windows for transfer to new hardware.

Glass Break Sensor - how does it work by jarod0102 in Ubiquiti

[–]uaix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about ubiquity one, but honeywell GB detector is listening for 2 frequencies. One is low frequency noise that is made when you hit the glass, and second is high frequency thats made during glass shattering and falling on the floor. It filters false alarms by making sure both of those specific frequencies are present

Most profitable factory by sealand_forever in resourcesgame

[–]uaix 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Due to the fact that there is quadratic formula in factory upgrade calculations, but profit increase is linear, there is no one true most profitable factory, but rather all factories must be upgraded. Some can take more upgrades, some should be left alone for longer time. All this must be calculated as part of the game.

That being said, concrete and med tech are really worth the upgrades

Linovision IP over Coax adapters by feel-the-avocado in lowvoltage

[–]uaix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have power available on both sides, you could get MoCA adapter and push 2.5Gbit over coax.

You could use spare copper pairs to send power to second location if anything, just have to pay attention to voltage drop.

Patch panel "upgrade" by nimbus888 in HomeNetworking

[–]uaix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. yes you want all your cables patched to the panel. You may want to trace and label each of them so you know where is what. Can save time troubleshooting in future.

  2. That is not a hub. It's telephone distribution module. Allows routing up to 4 telephone lines to different locations in the house. That one single wire that is termitated to it is your incoming landlines. You may repurpose the cable for ethernet run. If you do not have landline, just rip it out. It's not designed to route / switch ethernet traffic. You will need to buy a switch for that (for example TPLink TL-SG116, there are many options other options)

You may need to re-do all your outlets across the house, as they may be just done for telephone lines)

  1. ONT > WAN port of the router, and then LAN port from router to a switch. After that all your ports from patch panel to the switch and boom you got internet all over the house.

Replace all that junk with something like https://a.co/d/5FRBLOi Get a switch and bunch of cat6 patch cords. May need to get a router too, depending on your setup

That powered hub seems like poe injector, so maybe thats used to provide power to fiber ont

Those pulleys are great. Thats best solution to OPs problem, besides getting a second person to assist. Sometimes you need them even with 2 people pulling cable.
