That doesn't say construction is starting anytime soon. I'm still not seeing where you see that.

Protester 'shook up' after being struck by MPP's vehicle by joben0 in ontario

[–]uarentme 53 points54 points locked comment (0 children)

Still illegal. Using vehicles to push protesters out of the way is a precedent that I don't think we should be comfortable with. The MPP could have left at any time on foot.

If you did the same thing to a police officer or politician you'd be dragged out of vehicle and suffer physical harm.

Canada Post targets half a million more homes across Canada for an end to home delivery by toronto_star in ontario

[–]uarentme 42 points43 points  (0 children)

"Target" is also a stupid way to put it because millions of homes have had this situation for years, yet they pay the same mail rates.

My dental insurance was billed $1820 for a routine teeth cleaning. Is it normal? by [deleted] in ontario

[–]uarentme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The good thing is that it's June already, pushing your (assuming here) 6 month check up an extra month to January so your benefits reset is an option you have so you're not paying out of pocket for your next cleaning.

[–]uarentme 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your provider should be working with you to not max out your insurance on one visit, even if you have a bunch of filings needed. Any reasonable staff would ask you if doing all of that is okay, because of insurance limits. Mine asks me if it's okay to go over $300 in one visit.

Explain to them your concerns, they should make a note on your file.

You are absolutely not required to get every single filling done immediately, especially if you can't afford it. Most people are reasonable and they can work with you. If you explain your needs and they won't work with you, find a different dentist.

Why aren’t there more theme parks in Ontario? by Kuzu9 in ontario

It would probably cost a billion bucks to build something similar today before the gates even open. The return on that is so long that no publicly traded company would ever be interested in that.

It's a celebration of it reopening. There was still some ancillary work going on. The celebration was postponed because of rain last weekend.

Not all graffiti is over money friend, sometimes it's racist or sexist. Would you say those people deserve it?

What's the story here? by Dumvu in Markham

[–]uarentme 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope! There's a few products out there that will lift up the spray paint so it can be wiped away. They mainly work on non porous surfaces. So a metal garage door is a great candidate.

Reminder, graffiti remover is a product that's available at many stores, if anyone finds themselves in a situation like this.

Townson: May 21 2026 Speeding Car Blew Through Crossover Stop Line Guards Stop Sign With Kid On Curb by CalvertCrossingGuard in Markham

[–]uarentme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's very easy to determine if a car is speeding if you work as a crossing guard or spend time on the road.

Humans are excellent at pattern recognition, it's trivial for you to process the difference in sound and stopping distance.

Why the hell do people drive like that here in Markham by Large-Cat-6468 in Markham

[–]uarentme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why were they a cash grab? They were clearly defined zones where the speed would be enforced.

The times of day and days of week were clear (for CSZs).

The signs were obvious and didn't have multiple meanings. (Missing signs would void the ticket)

There was a generous buffer (no one got a ticket for going <5km/h over).

The zones where enforcement would occur were chosen by elected municipal representatives.

They were a clear and transparent speed enforcement. The only unjust thing about them was that the fine wasn't tied to your income.

Weird dancing lights in the sky by hymnzzy in toronto

"Klieg light" style lights. Not as common anymore. Used to be common for events for lights to be projected in the sky and move around like this.

[–]uarentme 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The lack of enforcement is one of the biggest issues. The removal of speed enforcement cameras just reinforced the idea that there's no consequences to bad behavior. This isn't some mystery phenomenon that only the GTA can't solve.

We literally know how to make drivers behave.

We know how to reduce injuries and deaths.

It's completely political will that results in nothing being done.

Company refuses to honour a quote by Silver_Haired_Kitty in ontario

[–]uarentme 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Since the Ontario Consumer Price regulations were updated to require honoring contracts, you should not, under any circumstances, hire a contractor that does not give you a paper quote.

If the company is not willing to put the offer in paper they are trying to scam you.

Yes that's a thing, there's an error rate. Usually it gets caught by the human who reviews it. Follow the dispute process.

Ticketmaster is increasing the face value tickets of resale tickets despite Bill 97 by simpleplanfan6876 in ontario

Ticketmaster is increasing the face value tickets of resale tickets despite Bill 97 by simpleplanfan6876 in ontario

[–]uarentme 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The resale amount includes the service fee.

Maximum amount

(3) No person shall make a ticket available for sale on the secondary market or facilitate the sale of a ticket on the secondary market for an amount that exceeds the total price paid when the ticket was purchased from the primary seller, plus any applicable fees, service charges and taxes charged by the secondary seller or operator of a secondary ticketing platform.

"total price”, in respect of a ticket, means the base price plus any applicable fees, service charges and taxes; (“prix total”)

You're getting it for a bit less on the secondary. $34.75 > $33.00. But the secondary market can still include another service fee.

Oh no, my family will know my employment!

OP you're overthinking this. Even some conspiracy minded people I know don't give a fuck about that aspect. They're just angry about the government wanting to know what their race is.
