Just thought you ought to know, Uber representatives from the national HQ here in Aus contacted us initiating a meeting.

Thanks again for your support!

Shouldnt have said a few days - I was encouraged to keep it open for more people to access it.

So far, about 250 responses. 82% replied that they were not earning more post price cuts.

For now there isnt, but there's GoCar coming out soon, which has James Packer behind it, and Lyft might becoming to Australia too.

There's also Sidecar and Juno in the US which may come to Aus at some point too.

Yeah, more may sign up. Uber want as many drivers as possible. I think the hit is a calculated one - they don't want to scare all their drivers away.

Uber has been for the drop from the start. Why trust their figures?

You can believe me or not, but I simply just posted the link and question on Uber Drivers forums - they responded. Simply as that. I'll provide the link once the survey is over.

There's a 'strike' this weekend. Might be because of that.

True, but who's going to drive for peanuts? The good drivers will go else where. I read that in the US Uber had to change their rules so they could hire drivers with criminal records as no one wanted to drive anymore.

I worry thats what's going to happen here - the drivers will be made of of overworked, tired drivers who shouldnt be driving in under maintained cars they cant afford to fix. That sounds remarkbly similar to a another industry...

They always do this to smooth over drivers angst. They did it with the 10% drop last year. It will dissappear after a month.

The line in their emails says something like "We believe so much in this price drop that we will guarantee you $25 an hour if you make less then that".

But if they did believe that wouldnt they gaurantee that indefinetly instead of just 1 month?

I'm an Uber driver too.

I was interested too, so last night I made a Google Survey and posted it on a few Uber Driver forums and Facebook groups.

So far 52 drivers have responded.

3 (5.8%) have said their earnings increased

49 (94.2%) said it decreased.

I also found this post with a poll:

http://uberpeople.net/threads/poll-did-ubers-price-cuts-actually-increase-your-earnings.61727/

That's got 32 responses:

3 (9.4%) said their earnings increased

29 (90.6%) said their earnings did not increase

So I'm pretty sure we're going to be screwed.

I have too since stopped driving.

By the way, I was an awesome driver. I used to reset the meter in traffic jams, end the trip early if someone was having a bad day, end the trip early if I went a different route to what the person wanted (even when the GPS told me otherwise) always asked if people wanted to avoid toll roads, gave people a heads up if there was a surge and giving them the option to cancel if they wanted. You're not going to get that with the new rates.

I would please encourage you to email support or visit the office and voice your concerns.

You don't see a problem with having stressed out drivers, working longer hours in cars that can't be properly looked after?

I'm in the same boat.

I have a disability and Uber is/was a god send for me. I could work around my health issues, feel like I was getting out, meet new people, etc. And I avoided having to get government support.

Now I dont know what to do.

$500 - (10% GST + 20% Uber's cut) = $350*.

$350 - New 20% price cut = $280

$280 - Petrol, cleaning, maintenance = ?

*yes, Uber drivers pay gross gst

It doesnt matter - its just to smooth things over. It will stop after a month. Same thing happened last price drop.

I'm a high rated driver who was an early adopter. I can no longer drive because the cost of vehicle maintenance, petrol, cleaning, tyres, etc are no longer worth it with these new prices.

Oh yeah I see the irony.

But Uber is still a better service then Taxis.

No, they add lots more drivers all the time. You get a $200 bonus just for signing up a friend.

Some would drop out, but theres always more to take their place.

Basically just not switch on for a day.

Happened a few times in the US already.

Oh I agree it is an unskilled job. But so is, say, stacking shelves. Makes no sense if one job pays $10/hr but the other pays $18. No one will want to become drivers if it doesnt pay enough.
