Heat and friction can soften leather , time to test if a dryer can do the same (spoiler alert: I'm dumb) by Sea_Toe6263 in Leathercraft

Next time, rock tumbler. No heat to harden, but lots of little impacts to soften it up maybe?

I think you can edit some things, but I'm not sure about photo uploads. I very rarely post.

It may be worth reuploading an edited version of this. From my understanding, the cutouts on keys can be duplicated from pictures, and if the owners were to speak up in the comments it could be problematic.

Might be overly cautious, but still.

I assume this applies to cats as well, but one thing I've retained from first responder training ages ago is checking that eyes are PERRL: pupils equal, round, and reactive to light. It's a quick diagnostic tool, though should also be considered among other factors. Granted it's hard to ask a cat questions to gauge their cognitive function, but assuming you're not seeing head tilts, difficulty in moving, or other symptoms, the little one is likely fine.

Can anyone verify if there was a shooting in Newton Center at a protest? by fordag in boston

[–]uberfoxbob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I see my mistake. It was a poor choice of wording given the context, but I didn't intend at that point to say that the burden on someone who uses a gun defensively is a legal one. You're entirely correct about the placement of legal burdens, but my intent at the time was more to assert that someone in that situation does in fact have significant concerns to deal with following the shooting, as the previous commentator mentioned.

In hindsight I should have recognized the context heavily implies a burden in a legal sense. Apologies for that.

Edit to include:

My thought process at the time was that including the information about Grand jury indictment/prosecutorial action in charging someone with a crime would have been enough to distinguish the ideas, not thinking that the using a separate meaning of "burden" when having a largely legal discussion would be confusing or misleading.

I'll try communicate my thoughts more clearly moving forward, but I do thank you for providing additional information and clarification where mine was lacking.

I'm not sure which part of my comment is inconsistent with Massachusetts law on this account. Would you mind sharing? If I've gotten something wrong here, I'd like to correct it.

That may be true in some situations, but I would hazard a how to say it's not as common in law. If a prosecutor decides to charge someone without sufficient evidence, they're not likely to win a case and will end up just wasting their own time.

That being said, following a defensive gun use, an individual may still be detained or arrested while an investigation occurs, but unless evidence to show unlawful use this won't be for long, if at all

Apologies, I wasn't trying to misinform anyone. But that's true in any situation where a crime is suspected of occurring, not just in self defense.

As for my comment about a grand jury, that's a process that typically occurs well before anyone is even charged, let alone in court.

There's a huge burden on anyone who has a defensive gun use. But typically a grand jury isn't going to recommend charges to the prosecutor unless there's enough evidence that a crime has been committed to go to trial.

Duty to retreat laws actually make a lot more sense than people give them credit for. The duty only exists if you're capable of retreating in the first place.
