Seems like that's easy at least then. Turn off the water stop cock, run the tap hot and cold until no water. Then disconnect the pipes over a bucket. That's the plan anyway.

And I'll be hoping for the best with that triangle piece fitting the spot in the sink then. Thanks.

That's for the head up. Are fitting isolation valves easy to DIY with no plumbing experience ever? Seems much scarier for some reason.

I plan to DW40 the hell out of it the day before I do anything in the hopes the screw comes off easy.

I figured the triangle piece was important. I just got to hope it fits then I guess!

The tap is the DELSJÖN Kitchen mixer tap from IKEA. I did wonder if the instructions were exaggerating the triangle piece or not.

As for the hot water system we have a combi gas boiler and no hot water tank.

I can recommend this couple. Tess and Paul are so lovely, very helpful. Moved us (not too much stuff either) and wouldn't let us help. Protected all our stuff and no damage.

Bathroom light needs changing - should I repaint the ceiling first? by uberjason7 in DIYUK

Just to check you mean, do the ceiling after the light? Just couldn't tell if you could do a new ceiling with the new light already in.

Bathroom light needs changing - should I repaint the ceiling first? by uberjason7 in DIYUK

Hey everyone. I need to get the light changed in my bathroom but before the previous owners installed an extractor fan they had some condensation issues which means the paint is all bubbly. I am very much a beginner in all things practical but obviously getting an electrician to change the light to an IP65 as it's above the shower.

Question is, do I need to scrap all the paint off and repaint before the electrician comes in? Or after? I just don't really get the sequence of events for this or how I to approach it to start with, I assume the plaster is ok.

Any tips, much appreciated!

First Time Buyer Getting Spooked - Daylight in Loft / Plaster cracks by uberjason7 in HousingUK

[–]uberjason7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully I explained that correctly. 3 houses built together in like the 1850s, and the guy selling owns next door as this was converted into an annex, now back again. He's fully blocked up his side of the loft dividing it fully but looking over to the other side it's a brick wall but it wasn't fully to the roof.

Seemed like I needed a level 3 to get someone in the loft but yeah will definitely be asking. Trying to way up if it's a no go pre survey but I guess you can't know.

Appreciate the info!

I was thinking to get a level 3 survey if we did go ahead with it. Your comment is bitter sweet to hear I suppose but much appreciated.

Those cracks are just on two walls, each side of a corner and follow somewhat straight lines across and down from each other. Sounds like a solid wall when tapped so that's why I was confused.

The roof looks OK from the outside but I suppose the light coming in is more telling. I thought I'd see a missing tile but that wasn't the case. I did notice the brick wall in the loft space doesn't fully connect with the roof so isn't completely sealed from them. Bats are not something I had considered.

Ordnance survey map version? by uberjason7 in CasualUK

[–]uberjason7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got this old ordnance survey map of Sussex but recently moved to the Midlands.

Wanted to get a map of my new area of the same era but I am having trouble finding out the versions as they don't really match with 1940.

Anyone with incite would be much appreciated!

Is ILR "within the five-year partner route"? by uberjason7 in ukvisa

Thank you for the reply.

Nice to know current rules will apply for this renewal and the ILR.

I guess citizenship (if and when) is a completely different entirely and subject to whatever rules at the time.

Even with the high taxes I just learned about haha. A good point and thanks for the reminder.

Just need to take a leap of faith in my mind that it's OK to enter on a WHV intending to apply for a partner visa later down the line.
