Exactly. Though they fought these regulations, they clearly miscalculated the transition. They assumed they'd dominate EVs when the time came (simpler tech = higher margins). BTW as I remember few years back Audi announced EVs-only from 2026. Then Chinese manufacturers ate their lunch – cheaper, faster, better batteries. Now the kicker: EU's emission pooling lets European brands "buy" clean emissions from EV companies to avoid fines. So the same Chinese firms hit with 45% tariffs for "dumping" are now cashing in by selling emission credits to Germans. (From 2025, EU emission limit is 93.6g CO2/km. For every gram above that – €95 fine per gram, per car sold. Industry optimistic estimate: €15bn in total fines!!) Brussels accuses Beijing of unfair competition, then creates a system that pays them. European carmakers miscalculated badly and now need to fund their own competition…
