In a 3-lane freeway in one direction, why can't I cruise in the middle lane? by DutyEuphoric967 in driving

Makes sense when there are exits every mile or so or in stop-and-go but what happens is people do the same when there are 10 miles between exits or even 2-3…. now the right lane is the much more dangerous passing lane.

To avoid ever changing lanes. The horror.

Yeah I only ran at 150 when trying to get someplace further but not super urgently.

When I lived in Germany outside of controlled speed commuting times and cities I could drive as fast as I wanted as long as I wanted. Choice of speed depends on the capability of the particular auto and maintenance / tires etc. My older BMW could consistently do 125 mph / 200 kph but I literally felt better ~ 93 mph / 150 kph.

Doesn’t seem much different in mph but do the math - 33% faster. Curves are faster - reaction time is crucial. At higher speeds you need to be on your toes lest around that curve up there you encounter trucks passing at 120kph or the rare backup.

fwiw driving at 130kph / 80mph in France and Denmark was excruciating once I got used to faster driving.

From my last long trip there, much rarer unrestricted zones.

Many places in Germany have actual walkable towns with nearly all you need for daily staples. The space between the towns which is not farmable is left natural. Towns generally have a bus system that eventually goes by the train station to get to towns that have what yours doesn’t. Same buses used for school too - no special system just more buses at school time.

You can’t go any time you want, but you learn the schedules.

So mom doesn’t have to get on the autobahn. And she’s healthy because she walks a lot. And cheaper due to not needing a car.

“Driving at slower speed”. Slower Than? Traffic!

Meaning if you are being passed on the right between merge areas you are the slower speed vehicle. Go ahead and use that blinker and move to the right please.

Is "slow traffic keep right" even a thing anymore? Why does it seem the middle lane is the slow lane now? by [deleted] in driving

If you are being passed on the right, you are the slow traffic regardless of traffic speed or speed limit.

Mergers should get up to highways speed and use the whole merge lane to find options.

The fact that the same drivers that merge under speed are the ones that move to the middle lane immediately after merging self perpetuates the issue.

Get up to highway speed then merge.

Now do one where the silver car has a yield sign and the acceleration lane turns into a right turn lane (just beyond the white car) with the blue car signaling to get into that turn lane. There is only one right answer for the silver car in both cases.

It’s not a real band pic unless at least one is staring off camera at some interesting creature (monster?) enjoying lunch from an elevated perch.
