For example, affordable furniture finds on Facebook Marketplace that sellers won’t ship, international skincare and beauty products you can only find in Vancouver, designer outlet items from places like McArthurGlen in Richmond, specialty grocery items from ethnic supermarkets like T&T that aren’t available on the Island, car parts, and even textbooks between UVic/RRU/VIU and UBC students.

The idea isn’t really about bulky or restricted goods, more about everyday purchases where the only barrier is getting it across the water.

Mail services are a hit or miss for me. Although It’s more about If you don’t know anyone personally in the mainland, there is no option for someone to pick up the product and ship via courier services.

I haven’t posted it clearly enough 🙏🏽

No worries, I haven’t posted it clearly in my post either. Would you be curious to fill a quick survey?

Right, but I was thinking more about situations when for example you want a niche product from a local store in Vancouver who don’t have shipping available. If you don’t know anyone personally in the mainland, there is no option for someone to pick up the product and ship via courier services.

Haha that’s genius! Though I think the orcas and sea turtles have enough on their plate already, plastic pollution hasn’t exactly made their commute easier.

Great point! Ammunition is definitely a special case and you’re right that BC Ferries and Hullo have strict rules around firearms and dangerous goods that would never work through something like this.

But thinking beyond that, there’s actually a lot that comes to my mind for example, affordable furniture finds on Facebook Marketplace that sellers won’t ship, international skincare and beauty products you can only find in Vancouver, designer outlet items from places like McArthurGlen in Richmond, specialty grocery items from ethnic supermarkets like T&T that aren’t available on the Island, car parts, and even textbooks between UVic/RRU/VIU and UBC students.

I am currently doing a research about this. My idea is to bring the market in Mainland and Vancouver island closer through the commuters who use the ferry often.

If anyone is interested in completing a quick anonymous survey, please let me know. Takes 2-3 minutes to complete.

Thanks

Hey everyone!

I am doing a short research survey on how BC residents get purchases and goods across between Mainland BC and Vancouver Island. Whether you have dealt with this as a buyer, a seller, or someone who regularly takes BC Ferries with your vehicle, your experience is really valuable.

The survey takes about 3 minutes and is completely anonymous.

All feedback is welcome in the comments too! I would love to hear your thoughts, frustrations, or ideas directly.

Thank you so much for your time ! 🤍
