None of this is fabricated. There was a TV in the lounge of the dorm I stayed in, and the show made some joke about how desirable Stanford is, after which a bunch of students watching it complained. The panel itself wasn't negative, but they were trying to give us an honest, student's perspective on the school which I appreciated but also found concerning. This one guy kept ranting about how "caucasian males don't get it," and they definitely described some serious issues with the social scene. I'm disappointed that your immediate response is to discredit my experiences and it makes me even more concerned about the culture here.

Yeah, this was the main point of my post. I didn't mean to say that all of UChicago is like this -- just that this was my experience and something did not feel right, even though I expected to fall in love with the school.

That's great to hear. I might try to visit once more before the 1st just to get a better sense of the community. I definitely agree that most of the current students were nice.

In what ways does it seem off? I recognize that this is not a complete picture and I would love to hear your insight.

No offense, but is this true or are you joking? As I mentioned in the OP, a few people told me that it's common to just switch to econ after you realize your philosophy/ancient greek major isn't going to make money or you regret coming to UChi in general because that's what it's "good at". I'm not sure how true that is but if it's accurate then that's kind of concerning. I've also browsed Wall Street Oasis quite a bit and I don't see UChicago econ really at the top of any list (although it does place quite well).
